I Wish I Reviewed Games *sigh*

I mean that in the professional sense. I know all jobs have there downsides and so reviewing video games would too but it would be a great dream job for me. Reviewers also normally get games a few weeks ahead of time before a release date. That to me is a nice bonus, especially for games it gets hard to wait for. Animal Crossing is one of those type of games.

I know Im prolly gonna get a talking to from Mothman and Cary both for posting this but I thought it would be nice for those that are getting Animal Crossing New Leaf to see what the game is gonna be like. Heck it might just convert a few of you to the 3DS ^_^!

Why would they give you a talking to?

Anyway, I like how the guy talks like the host of a kid's show, and I'd also like to review games for a living; that way I could bitch about the bad ones, and not have to pay for the good ones! lol

ah, reviewing games is tough business, man.  first of all the industry is corrupt as all hell, and second of all most of the people who read them are total jerks no matter what opinion you have.  I almost had a job working in the industry doing that in San Francisco for Gamepro once, and while I lamented not getting the job at the time, I know it would have ruined my love for games in the long run because of the crappiness of the job.

Just review games for the fun of it!  I'll read them.

As far as getting games early, I here ya: I want the new 3D Mario worst than pigs want french fries.  Wink

I remember reading the Gamepro magazine. I use to pick it up a lot along time ago and it was a good magazine to me. Im gonna keep reviewing games so dont worry, I enjoy doing it for fun!

if only we had the ability of getting the games without having to deal with any crap!

Dealines, I do not think that I could do because of deadlines.  I like going at my own pace.

Thats one of the downsides for me for the job, I would want to do things at my own time and professional reviewing has time restraints. I just want their ability to get the games early, lol.

I agree with transmet2033. I feel you'd be so rushed to get the review done, you'd have very little time to actually enjoy the experience. I'm ok with just being a gamer

Im gonna stick with being a gamer of course, I couldnt be a professional reviewer but I can do it for fun and enjoy in that. I dont do well with being rushed, lol!

A 'talking to,' huh?  Well I hate to disappoint, sooooo... (cue DKC Cranky Kong music)

You know if you had asked me about ten years ago, I would've had all sorts of positive advice to give you about being a game reviewer.  But after the dot.com bubble burst and everything kind of went down the crapper for my professional game revieweing dreams, I'm not as positive as I once was.

So why am I still reviewing games?  Well, because I'm too stupid and stubborn to quit.  I don't really get too many games to review before the release date, and I also have to review a lot of things others wouldn't even touch, like Monster High: Skulltimate Roller Maze, for instance.  You gotta take the good with the bad.

You can wish to review games all you want, but if you really want to do it, you just have to get started!  Don't expect to get early copies of games right away, and you probably won't get paid for your work either.  But I MIGHT be able to help you get started, so expect a PM from me here shortly.

And speaking of Animal Crossing, here's an article that you might like that I just wrote.

OMG HE CUED THE DKC CRANKY KONG MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!! *runs away screaming*

LOL! I loved your animal crossing article, you got some awesome gifts! Can you believe we only have 33 more days and AC will be released. Im soo excited!

Its nice to know I got some help with it if i do decide to go with it. I know it might not turn out how it seems in my head but hey, barely anything does anymore. Its one of those things where you want a job in something you love to do and writing and games are 2 things I love. I might not be the best writer but I feel when I post things I get my point out well enough to be a decent writer. You have to start some where and build it all up!

If you're serious about it, go to this site http://gamejournalismjobs.com/

It got me and a few other pixlbitters/1uppers jobs in the industry. Using the site I'm now writing for a small gaming website. You can see my profile here http://plus10damage.com/blake-turner/

So yeah, check it out. There's heaps of sites that go through them, and surprisingly, some of them are pretty big. You don't even need to be the best writer, you just need to be knowledgable and have a decent writing voice. I hope I helped anyway. If you do get work, let me know and I'll read your stuff!

Thank you kind sir! I think Im decent enough  writer to do it. I mean I dont think Im horriable but I guess thats up to public opinion. Im gonna keep that site link for the places looking for writers. Im still thinking about it for the moment but if I decide to go through it that will be another good help/start for me. Ill be keeping everyone posted on it. Thank you!

Awesome. My advice: Go work for a free site first. Build up a solid body of work with them, and they will guide you and help improve your writing. That site may become big enough to pay you or you may move on, either way, you have the experience :)

I think the worst part of being a reviewer would probably be the fact that you would HAVE to play shitty games. I couldn't imagine being forced to play something such as Hannah Montana's Road Trip... ugh...

I think I could do it, it would require me to take LSD but I could prolly do it,lol!
