This game is badass. Nintendo really hit it out of the park so hard with SMO and Breath of the Wild that I think the ball achieved escape velocity.
Not a BaD Decade - Super Mario Odyssey

In the last installment of this series where I look at games I finished this past decade, I'm going to write about Super Mario Odyssey, for the Switch. I love 3D Mario games, truly, deeply, and I loved this one especially because of its emphasis on exploration, something that hadn't really been in the series since Mario 64. Odyssey is my favorite Mario game since the Galaxy games, but while I can't really say I like it better than those, it's a real competition.
Odyssey does a lot of crazy, original stuff, playing around with the Mario formula almost as much as Breath of the Wild does. The hat mechanic is really cool, and lots of fun, bringing a lot of neat ideas and mechanics to the gameplay. There are also new kinds of levels other than the typical "forest, castle, ice world, desert," etc. found in most Mario games, including the New Donk City board, modelled after New York. The 2D portions of the game were also very cool.
I beat it, but I didn't do the postgame stuff. Well, I ran around the Peach castle level a bit, that's all. But of all these games in this series, this is probably the one I will beat again... sometime.
Next up for BaD is a series of games I WANT to beat, but for one reason or the other, haven't.
