Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric

The music in this game is music to your ears

Ah yes, Sonic Boom. The years haven't been too kind to Sonic after the 90's after losing relevency as a respected game frachise and being treated as a joke. After a number of failed attempts they decided to stop throwing things at the wall to see what sticks and you know, make a good Sonic game for a change. They finally had a winner in their hands in the form of Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. So what makes this game so special? Let's find out!

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric was developed by Big Red Button, which is comprised of developers who have worked on games like Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter, and the Uncharted series. With talented individuals who worked on those high profile franchises, it's no wonder we got this incredible game and I'm sure it was an honor working for such a famous franchise like Sonic.

Sonic Boom has 4 playable characters, Sonic, Tails, Amy, & Knuckles. Each othem have their own abilities and if you're familiar with the characters then you know what to expect. Sonic has his trademark speed while Tails can fly for a short time and so forth. Each of their abilities come into play in many of the levels the game has which involves solving puzzles to certain enemies being weak to certain attacks. They added a lot of variety to the gameplay and never gets boring. The characters have been given some slight redesigns and I really love how they look now.

                                               The game looks absolutely gorgeous

The game has various hubs that work like in Sonic Adventure. Here you can interact with various npcs and explore the hub to find secrets and find the entrance to the next stage. See, they used the formula from one of the best games in the series for this one. The levels themselves are vibrant and colorful and filled with a ton of variety. They never felt bland or boring at all that many fans consider the best levels in the franchise are from this game. The music in the game is just fantastic, they tried something different with the music that people have dared to say that it doesn't sound like Sonic music. Those people are crazy, the music is fantastic.

"But Captain N, where can I play this game?" The game is available on the Wii U but I have some bad news. The game has since been out of print and it's really hard to come by at a decent price because it sold really well that they never bothered to reprint more copies. It's such a shame too since everyone deserves to play what is considered Sonic's comeback game. If you do find it at a decent price then be sure to get it, you won't be disappointed.

Final thoughts: Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric is hands down the best Sonic game ever made. It took everything from the best games in the franchise and made it better. It left those games in the dust and Sonic Boom is now considered the best game in the franchise. Finally something the fanbase can all agree on.

Knuckles here is trying to convince you to buy the game

One thing they did with Sonic Boom was that this is a spin-off game off the main Sonic franchise. Obviously this game was too good and they didn't want this game to be attached to the main series games since they ruined those games. A wise move if I do say so myself. The game has 2 other games on the 3DS as well as a cartoon which isn't that good.

One thing I do remember is when they showed the game many times in trailers, they just loved showing the first level to show you how amazingly good it was. They never bothered to show anything else from the rest of the game because they didn't want to spoil anything and wanted to keep the good stuff hidden for you to play for yourself. Heck, no reviewer got a review copy at all because they obviously didn't want them spoiling the game and they wanted everyone to play the game at the same time like the rest. They really had confidence that the game would be amazing that they didn't need reviews. Every company should follow their example.

The developers even acknowledged that many gamers don't have enough time to play games these days that they added a technique using Knuckles to skip most of the game. People have even gone on to speedrun the game as well and many have noted that the speedruns for this game are insane. The developers thought of everything and it shows that they do care about their consumers, so thank you for listening to us.

You definitely will need some help...

All I can say that you aren't a true Sonic fan if you haven't tried the greatest game in the franchise, and are you truly a gamer if you haven't tried the quintessential Game of the Decade? Get on this asap and you won't regret it. Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric was a fantastic game from beginning to end and I am happy to say that it was my pic for my Number 1 Game of the Decade. No other game comes close to touching it and doubt anything ever will. The game is perfection.

Well that's it for this one, I hope you enjoyed all my picks for all my favorite games of the decade. Thanks for reading and later.

          Sonic Boom

My expression right now when I was writing about this

Happy April Fool's Everyone. My Real Number 1 Game of the Decade is still in the works and I'm still hard at work but it's coming soon. Someone gave me an idea for an April Fool's joke 5 years ago using Sonic 06 but I couldn't do it then since I was talking aout my 25 favorite Nintendo games and I couldn't exactly use that game. But I decided to revive that idea this year but I used Sonic Boom this time since it released in 2014 which is within the last decade and I can't really use Sonic 06 anymore. So yeah there you have it. I hope you enjoyed and/or had a good laugh at my prank. In other news, the whole month of April has been declared 420 month, because April is the 4th month and it's 2020. Sounds good to me, we can all use some fun considering what's currently happening around the world. That's all for now, thanks for reading and try not to fall for obvious pranks.

However do watch the Sonic Boom cartoon, it's the only good thing that this horrible game gave us. Trust me, it's that good.

It seemed an unlikely choice but I went with it. I forgot about April fools. I did think Sonic Generations was pretty good, even though I'm not really into Sonic games.

I did review Sonic Boom back in the day.  While I didn't think it was as bad as everyone said it was, it definitely wasn't that good and certainly not a Sonic game anyone wanted.

It's a shame the writers of the cartoon were stuck with such a bad license, because there is some pretty clever writing in that show.
