Revenge of the Sixth

Well, I'm pretty sure that's a humorous Star Wars reference to the hangover that occurs after Cinco de Mayo. Guess what my hangover was? Finally waking up at a normal hour, going to deadlift, run, and walk to my local Walgreens, so I could replace the 3V Lithium battery in my guitar tuner and jam a bit. It turns out it was already tuned correctly anyway. Oh well, I guess it's nice to have for when I want to play Goo Goo Dolls songs, the tunings of which are all the fuck over the place.

Yup, totally sober all weekend. Here are six things I'm doing

Books -  Still need to read Mockingjay, but I have a feeling it'll wind up like my experience reading Catching Fire, where I don't get around to it until much later, then finally a trailer comes out and I'm like "alright, now I pretty much have to." I do enjoy the Hunger Games series, it's just hard for me to simply sit down and read something lately.

Movies - Still need to see Iron Man 3; might get too frustrated by waiting to go with a friend and just see it alone.

Games - Yup, still pretty much just playing Pokemon Pinball every now and then when the itch comes on. It doesn't help it's right there next to the computer I search for work on, so it's in the perfect position to be my go-to for a break from resume sending, cover letter writing, searching, and getting rejected like the job I applied to was an attractive girl, and I still looked like the swamp monster of blemishes I was in high school. The post-college real-world is fucking lame. I would much prefer having my preferred freelance job just actually call me once in a while.

Weight Loss - Weighed in at 186.4 this morning, so that's 32.6 pounds lost since December 5th.

Food - I don't think I've found anything I don't like pesto on yet. I mean, I'm sure there's lots of things, but it seriously turns pasta, sandwiches, pizza etc. into a godsend. It's like my version of catnip, basically.

TV - Honestly, I know SNL is really bad and boring lately, but I was hyped for Zach Galifianakis and Of Monsters and Men this past weekend, and holy hell my expectations were met. Well, the lead singer's voice in OM&M sounded like maybe she was performing under non-ideal circumstances, but they otherwise did a good job, and this Jennifer Aniston look-alike contest skit had me rolling.

Music - Still obsessed with Macklemore. Listened to The Vs EP in full on Youtube yesterday, and I think I may have to purchase it, too. Here's a video from a song not from that EP (I honestly don't know what it's from) I found amusing. It's very college humor, juvenile, and even has that "wtf did I just watch" Youtube video quality to it, but ... I had a good time watching it.

A guy that raps about staying true to yourself, gay and race controversies, the struggles of overcoming drug addiction and spirituality, everybody

And thus ends a pointless blog trilogy inspired by Star Wars memes and a Mexican holiday. Maybe I get back to writing My Gaming Timeline entries soon.

saw Iron man.  As I tweeted, my heart liked it but my brain didn't.  Not sure what that means.

That's kind of how I felt about Dark Knight Rises ... actually, I think that's exactly how I felt about Dark Knight Rises.

Not at all looking forward to leaving College. That sounds like it'll be a bad time. Oh well, I'm here for another three years at least.

Well, a lot of my friends have found actual big person jobs, so as long as you didn't pick anything as fucking stupid and unmarketable as Radio and Television Production like I did, you might be alright.

I really haven't liked either of the Galifianakis SNLs. I just don't mesh with his humor. I've honestly been surprised by this season's SNL episodes, a few of them have been a bit better than they typically are, including the first half or so of Vince Vaugn's, IMO. The worst part about it is that I've really started to notice when the actors are looking at cue cards at an angle. It's clear they aren't speaking to the audience or themselves, but really, just reading. That's always lame, but I know it's a part of their massive schedule, sure.

On a different note, Catching Fire was probably the best Hunger Games book to me. There was some sincerely inventive and clever stuff in there. The last book just doesn't feel as solid, IMO. Don't worry, I won't spoil anything.

That doesn't intrigue me very much, since I honestly thought Catching Fire was quite a bit of a letdown, but it seems to be a lot of people's favorite. I just got annoyed by being SOOOOO far ahead of Katniss the entire time, I saw just about everything in that third act a mile away. We'll see how I like Mockingjay.

And you and an army on Facebook are not Galifianakis fans, but I love his humor ... and thought the most recent JT one and Kristen Wiig as a comedian are both highly overrated. Foot in Mouth

Congratulations on your weight loss!  I just know you're going to reach your goal in no time!

Since I'm trying to gain weight and muscle, my goals are a bit different, but I'm happy to say that over the past few months, I've put on about ten more pounds.  I'm around 210 lbs., but I'm not fat or anything.  Not super buff either, but at least I look totally different than when first started doing this right after graduating college and only weighed about 130 pounds.

Awesome, sounds like you're doing great with your goals!

Yeah, I always lifted weights and I guess I convinced myself I was buff, but then I looked at my stomach and ... let's just say this lean muscle thing is working much better for me. lol

You're right with Pesto. It's one of my favorite things on Pasta besides Bolognese, Carbonara and just plain butter.

I still need to see Iron Man 3 too. Hope to do it this weekend now that I already watched Iron Man 2.

I'm glad we agree on pesto. lol

How was Iron Man 2 for you? I thought it was kind of meh, but I was glad I saw it.

I thought Iron Man 2, while not perfect, was good. The problems were that it didn't explore more ideas, Natasha and the villain needed more development, some jokes felt flat, while I can remember the battles, some weren't very impressive and I just simply wanted to punch Sam Rockwell's character to the face. That said, the Tony's crisis with his power source was very interesting and made me sympatize with him, I like the small part with Tony's dad, when they were good, the jokes and battles were a blast to see, some cool special effects, good acting here and there and even if Thor is already released, it was still cool to see his stinger at the end of the movie.

tl;dr: Now perfect, but pretty entertaining. I liked it better than the first Iron Man ("dodges tomatoe").

Yeah, I don't know that I'd like it better than the first one, but to each his own.

I don't even remember that much about two, except: bad guy was Whiplash, Don Cheadle replaced Terrence Howard and they had an army of Iron Man suits/War Machine, whatever, there was a car race, and Bill O'Reilly was in it for some strange reason. Also, Cheadle crashes Downey Jr.'s party at one point. Outside of that, details are hazy for me.

I stopped watching SNL when Will Ferrel left. I tried watching it recently and was horrified. Man they need to just end it. I thought it was best when Adam Sandler, Chris Farley and those dudes were on it. I guess I'm old lol. Foot in Mouth

Chris Farley, Adam Sandler generation SNL isn't really that far past my own time, honestly; I love that "live in a van down by the river" sketch Farley did, Sandler's silly Weekend Update songs (and the Chanukah ones) and at the very least most of my own generation seems to have grown up with Tommy Boy/Billy Madison etc. Will Ferrel was one of their best I thought. I usually think his movies are at least not horrible too, and I especially liked Taladega Nights and Anchorman. Point is, I wouldn't feel too old, most in my generation stopped watching a while ago, too.

That said, I am much more frightened by how god-awful Sandler's recent movies look than by an SNL I can flip away from ...
