Blue Dragon was released for the Xbox in 2006. It's a turnbased JRPG produced by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the legendary creator of Final Fantasy classics. It also features music by Nobuo Uematsu, who did the music for the classic Final Fantasy games (and the music is great, except for maybe the questionable boss music). It's a pretty great game, but I never finished it. However, it definitely was the first real JRPG of the HD generation, and the game looks great (though not as great as Sakaguchi's next game, Lost Odyssey).

I think the characters were designed by the same artist who did the art for Dragonball Z but I could be wrong about that.

One of the things I like about this and Lost Odyssey is you are allowed to have five members in your battle party at a time. It makes the battles longer, but it's a different sort of game than when you're only allowed three or four members. I wish more games would do this.

It doesn't have the most exciting story, but it's a fun world to explore, and the characters are endearing.

I wish they would remaster this.

Akira Toriyama did design the characters, says Internet website.

What is this miraculous "internet"?

Mark and I played the heck out of this back in 2006 or thereabouts. He beat it but I stayed out of the end boss area because it doesn't let you return once you start it, and I was busy hunting King Poo. ha ha.

I love the music for the Mechat. I have the soundtrack. I think it's called Mechat Takes Off.

Yup, the same guy who did the character designs for Dragon Ball, Dragon Quest, and Chrono Trigger, Akira Toriyama, also did the characters for this game.

I have this game, too.  I didn't finish it either, though.  It just got too long and drawn out.  There was a sequel of sorts on the DS, but it was a strategy game.  Did you know it also had an anime?

It also had a manga spinoff that was not done by Akira Toriyama and didn't look anything like a Toriyama manga.

I had this game as well. It was pretty good, but it was rough and could have used a better budget. There is a massive difference in polish between Blue Dragon and Dragon Quest VIII and XI. Still, it was a good start. I wish Sakaguchi were still making console games and had gotten a long-term partnership with Nintendo. Mistwalker and Monolithsoft together under Nintendo's aegis would have been a huge RPG powerhouse.

The boss music was composed and performed by Ian Gillan of Deep Purple, the same guy who sang "Smoke on the Water."
