What I think of Dying Light

As a rule, if I don't buy a game when it releases it's usually because of lack of interest and I suspect I probably wont enjoy it, thus my catching up with past games is somewhat of a mediocre experience. Once again, just as with The Surge, I don't like Dying Light, yet I can't stop playing either of them. Unlike The Surge, which has a smaller, tight, more claustrophobic level design, Dying Light is an open world that lets you wander around a large map and progress at your own pace, like Skyrim, or whatever other open world game with markers and fetch quests level design. What's keeping me playing is the atmosphere and survival simulation. Its already getting a bit repetative early on, but maybe things will get more intereting if I keep poking at it. I like Resident Evil and horror games, so it has that going for it. We'll see...

How far through are you? I quite enjoyed it, but I do have somewhat of a fondness for kicking zombies off skyscrapers. The story is just dreadful though, and the voice acting is hilarious. I found those to be positives due to this being pulpy B-Movie nonsense though. I'm very interested in Dying Light 2 because the story is being written by Chris Avellone, who worked on Fallout New Vegas, and KOTOR 2. Hopefully things pick up for you.

I wasn't a huge fan of The Surge either. It's okay, but nothing groundbreaking. I didn't finish it. I liked the wheelchair section at the start of the game though.

Im only a few starter missions in. Generally with any RPG type progression system, it seems the game might be more fun if I had more skills and weapons unlocked or accessible. For now, Im just getting in and running the hell out without really fighting anything, since Im weak and underpowered, but the beginning section is just dragging a bit too long. I'm chipping away at the game story missions and side quests, but I can't really use molotovs or good weapons yet. It's kind of like early Fallout.

As for the surge, I thing the environments are generic and boring. Also, the same enemies over and over. The boss fights don't seem to fit into this game either.

I liked Dead Island, ZombiU, and this adds more parkour. Night time is just a night mare. Oh my gosh! It's like my kind of game, but the early parts are really hard.

The parkour is what I loved. Also, I'm weird and love the early parts of rpgs where everything's new, can kill me, and I have a constan sense of progression.

 Also, Parkour is just great.

Yes. I can slide kick and vault over bad boys like a boss now. Cool

I've considered getting this for my brother. Definitely his type of game. Maybe I'll get him the second one when it comes out, it looks like they upped their game for that.

I mean, honestly, its comparable to a Fallout or Metro game mechanics  and story wise.  If I remember correctly, Fallout 3 story had something to do with a cure for radiation contamination as the main story thread. Also the atmosphere and environment and survival theme. They're like in the same venn diagram circle of wasteland with warring faction politics or something. It's my kind of thing basically.

Loved this game, and I don't like many AAA games these days. Keep at it. Dying Light just keeps getting better. Get a shotgun as soon as they are available.

Yeah. I'm familiar with most of the landmarks on the world map now and have more weapon and parkour options unlocked. I guess its good that the game gives you the freedom to make it easier or harder depending on how you choose to play it.  The night time is like a whole other game onto itself, so its like 2 games in one, or like Metroid Prim 2 with the dark world.

Yeah, I'll have to try this sometime.

I played Dying Light on PS4 and loved it. Beat it, bought the expansion and beat that too. Great for multiplayer as well. Trying to get to a safe zone during night is some of the most intense gaming moments for me. Hope you enjoy it!

Yup. Night missions are just a nightmare, which is good. It's like a hard mode simulataneous to easy mode.
