When I got my Wii I considered getting Mario Strikers Charged. That one was more sci-fi and futuristic.
Electrifying - Super Mario Strikers

Super Mario Strikers was a five-on-five multiplayer soccer game featuring Mario characters released for the Gamecube in 2005. It was a good time for games like this - there was Mario Kart DoubleDash, Smash, Mario Baseball, and I think a tennis game too. Still waiting on Mario football and wrestling though.
But the most interesting thing about this game is that, for some reason, the good folks in Mario land decided to outline the perimeter of the soccer field with an electrified fence, which you can push characters like Luigi and Princess Peach into, and they would be briefly electrocuted. I'll never forget their screams. Actually, electrocuting the other characters was endlessly satisfying, and a little sadistic.
I used to play this with my friend in his apartment when I lived in Brooklyn. We played a lot of Mario baseball too. These games can be a lot of fun. But, despite the enjoyment of electrocuting Mario characters, the game does get a little repetitive after a while.
