Electrifying - Super Mario Strikers

Super Mario Strikers was a five-on-five multiplayer soccer game featuring Mario characters released for the Gamecube in 2005. It was a good time for games like this - there was Mario Kart DoubleDash, Smash, Mario Baseball, and I think a tennis game too. Still waiting on Mario football and wrestling though. Tongue Out

But the most interesting thing about this game is that, for some reason, the good folks in Mario land decided to outline the perimeter of the soccer field with an electrified fence, which you can push characters like Luigi and Princess Peach into, and they would be briefly electrocuted. I'll never forget their screams. Actually, electrocuting the other characters was endlessly satisfying, and a little sadistic.

I used to play this with my friend in his apartment when I lived in Brooklyn. We played a lot of Mario baseball too. These games can be a lot of fun. But, despite the enjoyment of electrocuting Mario characters, the game does get a little repetitive after a while.

When I got my Wii I considered getting Mario Strikers Charged. That one was more sci-fi and futuristic.

I never played the Wii one. I wish they would make a new one. That would be fun to play online.

Strikers was so much fun.  I think it's funny how they made the Mario characters a little more angrier and edgier.  One of SEGA's divisions made the Strikers games, as they did a soccer game of their own that was well received.  That's like how the Mario Baseball games were made by Namco, because Namco did the popular Family Stadium games (the first Family Stadium was brought to the US as R.B.I. Baseball).

yeah, angrier and edgier Mario games are a little strange. But I like this one!

Mario Strikers was done by Next Level Games, which started out doing an arcade hockey game for Midway (NHL Hitz). They also developed Punch-Out for the Wii and the last two Luigi's Mansion games.

You know, I've never played a Luigi's Mansion game. I know, I know...

Now this is the kind of soccer game I can get into.

I always liked Nintendo/Mario sports based games. They were solid spots games and they were a lot of fun with all the crazy things the characters could do. Can you imagine a Mario Wrestling game. The steel cage would be like the perimeter of the soccer field.

yeah they're always neat. I would totally play a Mario wrestling game!
