NES Night

Joaquim told me Rygar was on Switch Online, so last night I played some. It's crappier than I remember. And you only get one life - no continues. If you die, game over, no matter how much progress you made. I like the music though.

So I quit that and loaded up Double Dragon 2, which is a classic. It's still satisfying to whup these people's asses, all these years later. I got about four levels in. I didn't like the level on the helicopter though where the door opens occasionally and you get sucked out. Lost all my lives.

FYI, to all those Xbox owners out there (Knightdriver), Dragon Quest 11 S is coming to the Xbox in December. This is the expanded version with the orchestral soundtrack, 2D mode, and the extra missions.

I got the Namco Museum Volume 2, so I've been playing Mappyland, Rolling Thunder (my cousin had it on NES when I was a teenager) and Legacy of the Wizard, which was kind of a surprise.

yeah, Cary blogged about that collection a while back. Sounds like a good one. I've heard of Rolling Thunder, but I've never played it I don't think.

What is it with helicopters in games. You're always fighting one. I hate helicopter bosses.

yeah, ha ha, when I first saw the helicopter I tried to punch it. But then it flew away.

The helicopter boss in Double Dragon Neon is hilarious. It tries to fly upside down to hit you with its blades.

I forget what I was playing, maybe Contra, but I was like, "Oh no, not another helicopter boss again.". Geeze, maybe it was Uncharted 4, now I think of it. There are so many of them in gaming. There needs to be a youtube rundown of all of them, or a top ten at least.

My friend and I rented the Double Dragon NES games a few times when we were kids, but I didn't really get into beat 'em ups until Final Fight and TMNT came along.

Double Dragon was big when I was a kid. All the COOL kids were playing it.

I don't think I owned it though, for some reason. But, I do remember playing the Gameboy version A LOT.

Oh yeah, Double Dragon was definitely big when I was a kid, too. Heck, there was even a Double Dragon cartoon and live action movie (the movie is bad but fun in a B-movie sort of way). But I just didn't get into it like I did later beat em ups.
