Oh yeah, I remember this one on the classic collections. That first person perspective turned me off.

Sword of Vermillion was an action-RPG released for the Sega Genesis in 1991, part of Sega's "What Nintendon't" campaign. What's interesting about this game is the different perspectives of gameplay - overhead view for towns, a sideview where you move in 3D space (like Double Dragon) for the traditional combat, a first person world and dungeon view, and a 2D sideview boss-battle mode similar to Castlevania.
The game was generally well-received, and still looked upon favorably, but while I played it a lot (though I'm not sure if I ever beat it), I'm still not sure to this day if I like this game. At the beginning, I found it thrilling, with cool music and an interesting story - though its story, about the orphaned scion of a murdered dynasty hidden in a small village before setting off on quest to right the world (used to this day in games like Dragon Quest 11) is a bit cliche. I never liked the regular, random combat with monsters encountered in dungeons and the worldmap, and the boss battles weren't much better. And the first person view for exploring the mazes of the forests and environments and dungeons was confusing and repetitive.
Still, it's not a horrible game, I just don't think it's a very good one. I think I got it for my birthday or something in 1991, when I was 14 years old, so I was kind of outgrowing a lot of things and discovering more mature interests like girls and pubescent humility. But I did play it a lot.
