I played a Ravenloft computer RPG that was made in the mid 90s. It was a first person game made by SSI.

Good evening everyone,
Tonight for me is a dark and stormy night. I am not sure if my internet will hold up much longer so forgive me if this blog seemed a bit rushed. I held off as long as I could in hopes that the storms will pass but they seem to be here to say this cold Octoberween weekend. Normally this wouldn’t bother me for it fits the mood. But technical difficulties aside let’s get to the latest in the Octoberween 2020 Video Weekend series.
Many years back I shared one of my various Guilty (Reading) Pleasures which was P.N. Elrod’s I , Strahd: The Memoris of a Vampire. I spoke of the interest I had in the book, being a bit of an alternate take on the vampire tales of old. Yet despite my best attempts to speak more about this book I have to confess that despite my interest in the Dungeons and Dragons lore, as well as the “Ravenloft” portion of it, I have to admit that I’d never really fully played a campaign in the Ravenloft modules. I’ve always wanted to give it a try but could never find a group or DM that wanted to dive into this world. They mostly wanted to play the 2nd edition and would preferred to keep their characters in that realm. The DM I knew at the time said that “heroes don’t last long in Ravenloft”.
So when I stumbled upon this Youtube Channel, Maven of the Eventide, I was curious exactly what she all covered in vampire lore. It’s how I stumbled upon her book review of the very book that is one of my many reading guilty pleasures. Being connected to Channel Awesome at the time, as well as Team NChick I think, I have to admit that I didn’t quite catch her videos (I felt they were a bit campy than gothic) when I use to watch That Guy With The Glasses. But seeing how much Maven dives into vampire subjects makes me wish I checked on her sooner.
Upon seeing this video it made me have a better appreciation for the story lore that’s involved with Ravenloft and made me wish that I, Strahd had kept more in line with what was offered. Though I still enjoy this book and gladly keep in in my collection, it makes me wish that it could’ve been something more. If you don’t recall my write up long ago why not give this video a chance. I fleshes out more than what I dove into when it speaks of Lord Strahd Von Zarovish: Ruler of Barovia. Enjoy this dark night.
