This is how I use backloggery

Just for fun, I decided to input all of the games that I have in my possession into backloggery.  It currently is not too bad.  I am currently sitting at 89 games total.  That is not including my ps2 collection because it is not with me at the moment.  It is currently in AZ, a mere 1800 miles away from me.  Since, I do not remember everything in that collection I decided to leave it out, until I reclaim the games.  Since backloggery is a system built to help us out as gamers, I have decided to use it my own way.  In truth, I cheat.  I cheat the system to help me filter out what I actually plan on playing and what I know I will never get around to playing.

I use the beaten medallion for games that I have beaten, but am not quite done with.  Games like Bioshock Infinite and Halo 4.  I have beaten the campaign once, but I want to finish it at least once more, probably on a higher difficulty.

I use the completed medallion a lot.  I have decided that when I have completed a game to my own satisfaction, I will mark it completed.  Since I am not an achievement or trophy enthusiast I do not use them to decide whether or not I have completed a game.  Since I have been playing a lot of Bioshock, I will use it as an example.  I have beaten the game multiple times, and have a majority of achievements, but I know that I am not going to get them all.  I have not desire to replay the game on the hardest difficulty, or with the vita chambers turned off.  I have finished the game to my satisfaction, so I have marked it completed.

I also use the null, more or less to clear out certain types of games.  I feel compelled to put all of the games that I own on Backloggery.  That does not mean that I have any desire to finish all of the games that I own.  Example, I know that I will never finish Dead Island.  I enjoyed the time that I spent with it, but I am done.  I only finished the first section of the game, but I cannot will myself to play any further.  There are also games like Burnout and Mario Kart, that I just mess around with.  I see null as being a great tool.  A place to hide games that I do not expect to ever play, but will not sell for one reason or another.

So, anybody looking at my backloggery page may look and see fairly good looking backlog.  I am currently sitting with a 40/60 breakdown, 40% being unfinished.  You cannot compare your backlog with mine, though.  Mine is my own, tweaked to serve my needs and help me focus on the games that I hope to actually play and finish.  The other day I was wondering what game I was going to play next.  Thanks to backloggery, I can see the 27 options that I currently have.

I'm too lazy for this, plus I regrettably traded in a bunch of games last year....

Half of the time I like trading games in.  The other half is when I trade in a repurchase half-life for the ps2 3 times.

Sounds like a useful tool for keeping track of your backlog. I may have to start that up myself. As frightening as it might be to learn just how backlogged I am! Like you,I could give a flying crap about achievements and trophies. Not what matters to me. A game is finished when the final scene ends. At least to me anyhow.

I want to have fun, and playing a game on the highest difficulty, and unlocking all of the achievements is not fun to me.

Hey, use it how you want, it works. I'm considering putting 1080 Snowboarding in my null category, cause I am never going to sit down and play it to unlock anything; hell, I'm not even sure there is something comparable to a story mode in that game.

Based on the last time I played it, Shadows of the Empire might go there as well, just cause, and I didn't like it TOO much when I was little either, but how did I play it without having that control scheme make me rage quit every time?!

null is built specifically for games that do not have a story mode.  Games that do not have a specific goal except to get a higher score.

Even so, Shadows of the Empire might just be bad enough to put there.

I remember playing the first level, and loving it.  The only problem is that I played it when it came out in the 90s.  If goldeneye has not aged as nicely as I would have hoped, I cannot see that shadows of the empire did any better.

That Hoth level is still fun, and I even liked the canyon level as a kid but ... try playing it again. It's like playing an FPS without a right control stick, at least on the ground, plus sluggishness and a not-great camera.

There's also a fortune cookie option that picks out a random game if you ever don't know what to play next.

I cannot leave it to chance, I need to be in the mood.

That's cool. I think Backloggery is a useful tool however you like to use it. So far I've only put games on there I haven't beaten yet, but I should go through those and mark ones I'll probably never get to (some of the games my wife has bought, for instance). But hey, it's cool to have another person to stick in my multitap Smile
