Adventures In Vaccines

Good morning Pixlpeeps! I had to restart my computer because for some odd reason this Office program would only type every other word. Yeah that would have been fun reading. Anyways I meant to do a recap of Chris Goes To Vegas on Friday but something came up…well let’s just go over the timeline (Psst there isn’t much game talk here, so if you’re not into reading my ramblings it’s cool, I’ll see ya next week)

Wednesday Afternoon:

I scored a Virus vaccine appointment at the local Walgreens For Friday. CVS had zero, Walgreens had 50+ (perks of living in a small town) and it turns out CVS is building a special “Vaccine Room” as I found out on Monday.

Friday:

I got my mom and myself a vaccine appointment for shot 1. My brother already got his through work and I think my dad still refuses to leave his house in Hawaii. I'm going to assume my sister got her's because she's in college. We get there 30 minutes before hand to fill out paperwork. Apparently nobody decided how to set up a proper queue so people were standing around. Finally I saw a line that had people waiting to check in. After 30 minutes I was the front of the line and got to finally check in. Nice lady but really slow with the paperwork and checking IDs and whatnot.

I want to say maybe another 30 minutes rolls by and I’m in the chair talking to the nurse who gives you the dose of sweet microchip tracking (that’s for you tin hat folks!…relax easily offended it’s a joke) She said I’ll have to do the whole thing again except no paperwork for dose 2 in a month. I was told to stay around the store for 10 minutes and then I could go home. After my 10 minutes I went to Dunkin Donuts for Ice Coffee and donut holes. The ones that taste like raspberry are really good.

Saturday:

As I was getting ready for WrestleMania I started to feel achy, and I had chills. I was like great I’m getting the virus again (Psst, I had the virus after Thanksgiving…it SUCKED!) I took a nap, woke up hot with a headache, but watched night 1 of WrestleMania.

Sunday:

Feeling good aside from a headache and looked up the side effects and sure enough I had them minus the nausea.

Monday:

Little bit of a headache, decided to try and finish a graphics project (didn’t finish, heck I’m typing this so I can not thing about it and then get inspired to finish it)

Today:

I finished 80% of the project, decided I didn’t like, scrapped it, started a new one 70% finished and I’m stuck. Oh I’m back to normal, the arm doesn’t hurt, everything is fine, and I’m now being tracked (again it’s a joke, relax). I’m not going to be one of those people who push stuff on others so if you’re going to get the vaccine, cool, if not stick to wearing the mask so other’s don’t get sick. You do you.

Oh I also brought my 3DS to Walgreens to play while trying to kill time but never took it out. Anyways I better get back to my graphics project. Have a good one.

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

I got my first shot yesterday morning. Moderna, at Fry's pharmacy. My arm started hurting later that day though, and still hurts now. Frown

I had a little soreness but I also slept on my arm so I may have caused some of it. Fry's in Arizona used to always throw me off. Was it the grocery store or the electronic store. I'd get excited just to realize it was the grocery store. Also I now miss you Fry's Electronics.

It was the grocery store but I prefer to shop at Safeway. Laughing

They were both founded by the same family but split apart decades ago. I liked Fry's Electronics. They had a combination of the kind of stuff Best Buy has with the kind of stuff Radio Shack had, plus things that neither place had. I bought a TV and a few odds and ends there over the past few years before they shut down. I remember back in the early 00s the one in Tempe AZ had a PS2 hooked up to a Jumbovision display with Virtua Fighter 4 running on it, and I played a few rounds. Then a few months ago, I went in, and most of the shelves were already stripped bare.

The Fry's grocery store chain is the local Kroger's affiliate.

I'm registered for a vaccine (Moderna) next week. I'm writing a will just in case (ha!).

I am definitely having iced coffee and donut holes from DD tomorrow for comics day. Yessiree! Thanks for the suggestion.

I got the Pfizer shot. Enjoy the Ice Coffee and donuts....I may get that later because I need to run an errand later on today.

I got the Sweet Foam iced coffee and a glazed donut. You only get 10 donut holes minimum and that adds up to something like 700 calories, and you know I won't be able to resist eating them all.

I signed up for the vaccine in my county at the first of this month.  I got an email a few days ago that said I'm around 464,000 on the list.  Sooooo...it may be a while before I can get mine.  Would be nice to get it sooner, since I work in retail and all.

I'm surprised you didn't get pushed to the line being in a front line industry. At least around here anyone who works retail got first dibs after the seniors.

I guess that's not the case in Texas.

I thought Texas had opened the vaccination up to everybody over 16? Keep looking, and look for sites like Walgreens or CVS that might have vaccination clinics open. Can you look in another county, or perhaps across the state line in Oklahoma?

Yeah it's open to everyone in Texas, but I think you have to sign up in the county where you live.  Another challenge for me will be getting there since I can't drive.  I'll get the vaccine eventually, just have to be patient.

I got the J&J vaccine at the university where I work and aside from some very mild soreness where I got the shot and tiredness the next day, nothing really happened. Guess I got lucky, just like when I actually had the virus (my only symptom was a dry cough, so I only got tested to say I didn't have it and ... )

I was told with the one I got (Pfizer) if you had the virus the side effects will kick in. You were lucky with only a dry cough. I had a mild case but I couldn't taste potatoes for over a month and I had crazy dreams for a week.

My friend Jaclyn may or may not have her taste and smell totally back yet and she got it in January.

I got the Pfizer vaccine, with my first shot being three days after Christmas as I work for the largest hospital system in the Southwestern United States and I happened to be looking at my work email at the right time to see that they had opened up a bunch of extra slots. I'd already signed up with the county at that time and had gotten an appointment for the following week, but this expedited it.  Mine was done at the Arizona State Fairgrounds, which had been set up as a vaccination site as it's one of the properties that has the largest about of open space to move cars through in Phoenix and is also located in Central Phoenix.

First shot, no problem. Second shot, I had a days' worth of aches and chills.

My elderly parents are just now getting their first shots this weekend after months of trying.
