My First Podcast!

Hey folks, I got some big news for you all!  I have my very own podcast now!  As you all may know, I’ve been reviewing video games for around 25 years now, starting at newspapers like The Dallas Morning News and now I write for GamerDad.com.  In that time things have changed a lot, as most reviewers now use audio and video like YouTube to post content.  But I’ve mostly just stuck with writing since that’s what I know and what I have time for.  But now my brother Jeff is getting me into the 21st century by helping me start a podcast!   Read on for links to it as well as how we got started!

Anyway, the podcast is called Pizza Pixel Podcast and here’s a link to the first episode.  By the time you read this we may have more up, but we’ll just talk about the first episode now.  Since we’re just starting out, our first few topics will be pretty basic, with our first one being our top five favorite video games of all time between Jeff and I.  In future episodes I plan to have my other brothers in the podcast as well.

Please listen to the podcast and let me know what you think in the comments section.  Criticism is welcome, too, but please be gentle.  We’re just starting out and learning the ropes, so we’ll get better over time.  I’ll make other blog articles about future episodes when they are posted!  Thanks so much for listening.  Later!  --Cary

I don't trust anyone who doesn't know death by snu snu

Seriously, though, it's cool that you and your brother have a podcast going. Kind of interesting to hear what you sound like after reading your stuff and about your brother. You ought to see if the gents here at Pixlbit. might give your podcast a little promo.

Thanks for listening!  I don't know how PixlBit could promote my podcast, though.

I'd get in touch with Nick or Julian. Nick could put something here and Julian could possibly give a shout out on NWP

I used to be so into Podcasts when I had an iPod. Now it's just troublesome, but maybe I can figure out how to listen with my phone (I do most of my listening on the road), or I'll try to find some time to listen on my laptop. I'm interested to hear your podcast. I'll find a way.

Listened to episode 1. I think you are doing a great job! You have a good radio voice. I love the inserted game themes. I'm sure that takes some time to do. I'll have to get Spotify on my phone so I can listen in my car.

Thanks for listening!  I think my 'good radio voice' comes from the fact that I did customer service over the phone for nearly 9 years.  Did you know that when I was a kid, I actually did a couple of radio commercials?  It's true!

Brother Jeff did all the editing.  He's good at radio stuff too because that's what he majored at in college and he even worked at his college's radio station.

I hope you can continue listening to the podcasts.  Even though I haven't wrote a blog about it yet, Episode 2 is actually up right now!  Episodes 3 and 4 are waiting to be posted, and I'm already working on Episode 5!

Oh my, you guys are like the perfect pair to do a podcast together. I saw episode 2 there ready for me. I just ordered my new phone, so I hope I can put Spotify on it and listen on my way to work in the mornings.

Jeff has made it so you can play the podcast in lots of ways, so hopefully you can continue to listen to other episodes!

My new phone will allow me more space for apps. I'm at my limit right now and can't even update anything anymore. Just a couple more days and it'll be here.

I don't think you HAVE to have an app to listen to it, though.  I can listen to it just fine on my devices just from the web sites.

Hey Cary, I just read this blog and immediately listened to the first episode of your new podcast. I really enjoyed hearing you and Jeff talk about your favorite 5 games. Sounds like you guys are off to a good start! I hope to check out episode 2 at some point this week.

Well. It's about darn time. Laughing

Yeah it seems making a podcast is a lot less involved than making a YouTube video.  At least from what I can tell.  The biggest challenge is finding a time to meet up with Jeff or one of my other brothers to actually record!

Yeah, video is a lot more complicated. Congrats, Cary!

I'd still like to do videos someday.  Maybe I'll start by putting the podcasts on YouTube.  I've seen where people do that.

Every once in awhile I will try video using free programs. I don't have much experience editing video. Writing is my forte. I have a face for radio and a voice for a newspaper.

Writing is still my forte, which is why I write outlines before recording these podcasts.  But I'm not going to let whatever my voice sounds like keep me from trying to do a podcast.  And if I can do videos someday, I won't let what I look like affect me either!  Really the biggest challenge is finding the time to do these things!
