Blog a Day #14

Hello everyone, how are you?

2020 was pretty much a really awful year but despite that we still got some really great games released that year to at least keep us occupied from the harsh reality that year. I never posted what my favorite games of that year were, so I decided to make up for that now. Anyway, here are my Top 5 games of 2020...

Clubhouse Games

Clubhouse Games really caught me by surprise at how fun it is. The game features 51 classic tabletop games from around the world so there is a ton of to choose from. The game even features tutorials for each game in case you aren't familiar with the rule or don't know how to play. But watch out for the CPU as they can be brutal. And the voice acting is..... pretty bad. Online play is great as well, never really had any problems with it. One thing I wish is that they offered more games via dlc or something. Definitely check this out as I feel it's a hiddem gem from that year.

Spider-man Miles Morales

Spider-man: Miles Morales is a much smaller game than its predecessor, think of it like what Uncharted: Lost Legacy is to Uncharted 4. However just because its a smaller game doesn't mean it isn't worth checking out. One thing I loved about this game is how it's set around Christmas, not many games are set around that time, besides Arkham Origins. Like I've been through the map of this game before but seeing it covered in snow makes it feel fresh. I will say that the game does feel like it is over too soon and stuff does happen or escalates too fast in the plot. It's still a good game though.

Ghost of Tsushima

I was quite curious about Ghost of Tsushima when it was first announced. People were saying "what if Red Dead Redemption? But in Japan?" That's the impression I got and it was basically just that. Some people have gone on to say it's basically Assassin's Creed, but in Japan and I guess that's not totally wrong as well. But it has its own identity to stand out. The environments are really beautiful and the gameplay is really solid as well. I also love the swordplay and I love that you couldn't just hack away at any enemy you saw. It also allows you to approach fights in any way you want. GoT is not quite historically accurate in the way it portrays the Mongol Invasion and the use of katanas, but who plays games for historical accuracy?

Doom Eternal

Doom Eternal is definitely one of the best games I played that year. I actually got to play 2016's Doom that year for the first time as well and I really loved it, so the next logical step was to try out its sequel. I didn't get it at launch so I waited for a while and it eventually went on sale digitally so I grabbed it. All I can say is that it's such a fantastic game that improves upon the previous game in every way and adding a grappling hook certainly adds a new dymanic to fights. More games should have grappling hooks

ACNH

Animal Crossing New Horizons was the game I was really excited to play the most that year. I'm sure this is almost everyone's favorite game of 2020 since it released at a time where all of us couldn't go out, so this game provided a perfect escape from what was going on. Basically you get to work on your private island however you want and experience island life. It also received a number of updates to add new things, and last year it received its final update as dlc which added a ton of new features to an already content packed game. This is definitely among the Switch's best games.

Honorable Mention:

Xenoblade Chronicles

Monolith Soft's rpg classic makes a returns to the Switch as Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. And like the name implies, this is the definitive edition of the game. I don;t know how to describe it, ot's a mix of both a remake and remaster at the same time. But what's new? Well it features a number of quality-of-life improvements, updated graphics, as well as a newly arranged soundtrack. It also features an all new story that takes place 1 year after the events of the main story. This definitely the best version to play if you haven't.

So those are all my favorite games of 2020. What were your favorite games that year? Thanks for reading and...

Looks like Halo Infinite took the hint with Doom Eternal and added a grappling hook. You use it all the time in Halo Infinite too.

Ghost of Tsushima sounds interesting.

I'm going to have to try Spider-Man Miles Morales again sometime. I really liked it but I played it when I wasn't much in the mood for that type of game.

I can't remember what I played last week, much less in 2020. Seems like a long time ago right now.
