Blog a Day #5
Hello everyone, how are you?
Nintendo Switch Online is, to put it simply, a subpar service. I mean yes, at the start it was fairly cheap, $20 a year, $35 if you opt for the Family Plan. You got NES and SNES games with the ability to play them online with a friend if you wanted. It was a pretty okay deal. But then we saw that Nintendo would be adding Sega Genesis games as well as N64 games as part of its NSO Expansion Pack and everyone was excited... till Nintendo decided to show how much more we would have to pay to access these games. $50 a year or $80 if you opt for the Family Plan. They tried to sweeten the deal by adding the Animal Crossing dlc to it, but if you stop paying for it, you'd lose access to that dlc. It's too expensive and don't really feel it's worth it. If you like it then good for you. However with them adding Banjo-Kazooie to the service, I got thinking what other games they could eventually add and could possibly persuade me to pay extra. I don't pay for the Expansion Pack but here are games I would love to see Nintendo add to NSO eventually...
Beetle Adventure Racing
Beetle Adventure Racing is one of my all time favorite racing games on the N64 and is considered one of the best racing games on the system. It's Need for Speed, but instead all the cars are New Beetles. There is just two problems and those are they would have to get permission from Volkswagen and the game was from EA. Those are two hurdles here and I really don't see this game happening, but I can dream right?
All the Cruis'n Games
Who doesn't remember the Cruis'n games? To me, my most favorite is definitely Cruis'n USA because of the nostalgia I have for it. But the other games are great too. I love how these arcade racing games were so over the top. We actually have a recent Cruis'n game called Cruis'n Blast for the Switch and it was made by the developers who worked on the original games. What's even cooler is that they have gone on to say that they want to either port or remake the original games on the Switch. I'd say with NSO being a thing, porting them seems possible now.
Vigilante 8 and Vigilante 8 2nd Offense
Two of my most favorite car combat games when I was a kid were Vigilante 8 and its sequel, 2nd Offense. We had a new game on XBLA back during the 360 days but it wasn't that good. They don;t really make car combat games anymore, plus Activision shut down Luxoflux, (the developers of these games) ages ago. However with Microsoft's recent aquisition of Activision, things might start to look bright for these games. Microsoft has said that anyone working under Activision s free to wirk in any IP from Activision's vault. This give me hope that these games can see a new light of day, either being ported or hopefully getting remade. To me, these are the original battle royale games.
All of Rare's N64 games
I wanted to say only Banjo-Tooie, but why stop there? They can add all of Rare's N64 games if they wanted to, from Banjo-Tooie to Conker's Bad Fur Day, any and all their N64 games. Goldeneye might be harder to get here cause of licensing and stuff but anything is possible.
Donkey Kong 64
Yes, Donkey Kong 64 may be a game from Rare and I could have listed it above, but it deserves its own spot because it's Donkey Kong 64. 3D platforming perfection and the Monkey Rap. What more could you possibly want out of life?
So those are the N64 games I would love to see on NSO at some point. Which games do you want to see added eventually? Thanks for reading and...
