Happy Valentine’s Day!  I’ve got valentines for all of you!  Game reviews I’ve written recently at GamerDad.com!  Show your love by reading as many as you can, and maybe post a ‘like’ or comment or two.  I’d appreciate it!  OK let’s begin!

SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters Clash (Switch)

Back in the late 90’s/early 2000’s, game maker SNK released a handheld called the NEO GEO Pocket Color, to compete with Nintendo’s Game Boy Color.  I loved that handheld, and I’ve been super happy that over the past few years, many of those games have been re-released on the Switch.  But every time I reviewed one, I would always want and ask in my review for them to re-release SNK vs Capcom: Card Fighters Clash on the Switch.  That was my favorite game on the handheld.  I liked it even more than Pokémon!  I have a lot of great memories playing that game with my brother, and also playing it with SNK employees at E3 back then!  So now I’m SUPER HAPPY that they’ve finally re-released it!

Now that I’ve finally gotten the NGPC game I’ve wanted on the Switch, what else is there to ask for?  Well, I guess I could ask for them to port Crush Roller, or maybe one of the puzzle games like Puzzle Link.  Actually there was a sequel to Card Fighters Clash on the NGPC that never came to the US.  It would be neat to have that, but then they’d have to translate it and that may be too much to ask.  I don’t want the DS version of Card Fighters Clash, though, because they added some rules to the game that I didn’t like, and the original DS cartridge had a game-breaking bug in it!

Windjammers 2 (PS4)

Windjammers was an arcade game from 1994, also released on the NEO GEO.  It was developed by the now defunct game company Data East, who made such classics as Burgertime, Karnov, Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninjas, and many more.  Five years ago Windjammers was finally released on the PS4, and I reviewed it.  Windjammers is a sports game where you and an opponent toss flying throwing discs at each other, trying to score goals at the opposite end of the playfield.  It’s a mix of air hockey, Pong, and a bit of Super Dodge Ball.  And now there’s finally a sequel on most current consoles and PC.  It’s a fun game, but a bit hard and feels more like a remake than a sequel.

Pikmin Bloom (Mobile)

I like pretty much most every Nintendo franchise, but I’ve never really gotten into Pikmin.  You’d think I would, since it’s a pretty cute and colorful series.  But for whatever reason, I just couldn’t get into them.  And the games in the series I did like, most other Pikmin fans hated.  Like the 3DS Hey! Pikmin game that was more like a 2-D platformer.  I liked that one because it reminded me of Kirby Mass Attack, but most Pikmin fans I’ve heard from hate it.  But now there is another Pikmin game, and no it’s not Pikmin 4.  It’s Pikmin Bloom, a mobile ‘game’ that counts your steps as you walk, and gives you rewards like more Pikmin and other goodies so you can spread Pikmin and flowers around the world!  It’s made by the same folks who did the hit Pokémon GO game, and it shares a lot of similarities to that title.

Chicory: A Colorful Tale (Switch)

In the land of Picnic, which is full of talking anthropomorphic animals, there is one special individual who wields a paintbrush.  This ‘Wielder’ is in charge of all the colors in the land, and the brush has been passed down from generations.  The new wielder is a rabbit named Chicory.  But you don’t play as her.  You play as her janitor, a little dog named after whatever you put as your favorite food.  So in my game you played as Pizza.  One day while cleaning, all the color disappears from the world so you go check on Chicory.  She’s locked herself in her room, but the brush is outside.  So you take the brush and become the new wielder, but all of a sudden, black corrupted plants fill the land and you must use your new brush powers to stop them and find out what’s happened to Chicory.  Chicory: A Colorful Tale is a top down viewed adventure game that combines elements from classic Zelda games with paint and drawing puzzles like Okami.  And since every screen is black and white at first, you can color in every single area like a coloring book if you like!  This is a very good indie game, one of the best I’ve played in a long time!

Breakneck City (PS4)

Breakneck City is a throwback retro styled side scrolling beat ‘em up with low poly graphics.  Play as a guy or a girl in single or two player co-op as you beat down thugs who are trying to shut down your favorite video rental place.  Punch and kick your way through city streets, night clubs, factories, and more.  It has really bad polygonal graphics that look worse than the PSOne.  Not sure what they were going for here.  So bad it’s good?  I’d rather just play Streets of Rage 4 instead.

Queeny Army (PS4)

An evil dictator has taken over and kills the Dean of an influential university.  The dictator’s corrupt police force traps the female college students there, but they fight back and steal their weapons.  Join the resistance in this run and gun 2-D action platformer.  It’s not the worst one I’ve ever played, but not the best either.

Forest Island (Mobile)

Cultivate your own ever-growing island with landmasses, vegetation, and wildlife in Forest Island, a relaxing endless clicker on mobile devices.

DIG!T (Mobile)

This is a math puzzle number game where you are given a set of numbers, and must recreate the same number arrangement on the bottom of the screen.  It has the subtitle of “Not Like Sudoku” but if you do like math puzzles such as Sudoku, you’ll probably like this one.

Hope you all have a great Valentine’s Day.  I know it can be rough when you’re single, but just use this time to let the folks you care about know you really do, and celebrate the freedoms you have by being single!  Thanks for reading my reviews and posting comments and such, that’s the best valentine you can give me!  Later!  --Cary

Card Fighters Clash is the NeoGeo Pocket Color game I always hear about. I guess I should give it a look now that it's so accessible!

It's a bold statement for me to make, but I like Card Fighters Clash more than Pokemon.  So yeah you should try it!

Whenever I finally get to setting up my Switch, I'm going to check out Card Fighters.

Windjammers in on GamePass. I may give it a try.

I'd like to play Pikmin Bloom but I'm really adverse to playing games on my phone. It's like, I play enough on console already. I don't need it everyday.

Which one is on GamePass?  Windjammers 1 or 2?  Actually it really doesn't matter.  Both are practically the same game anyway.

I don't really play games on my phone either.  Most mobile games I just do on my iPad at home.  But Pikmin Bloom is more of a walking app than a game, so if you are on your feet all day or like to walk a lot, you might want to give it a try.  It entertained me for a couple of months anyway.

Pretty sure it was Windjammers 2. I may try it soon.

I actually installed Pikmin Bloom but then I tried to login with my Nintendo accound and it didn't work. I didn't have time to figure that problem out and decided to uninstall it. I would mostly have it on while I'm at work, 'cause I'm on my feet the whole time, but it might be a distraction I should avoid. Now on 3DS, though, I'd do it.

I don't play on my phone either. I never really liked touch screen controls in gaming, and the mobile gaming market is pretty much a sewer of micro transaction druven pay to win games. Even the "good" mobile games aren't all that good when there are much better choices elsewhere. I tend to agree with Jim Stephanie Sterling on the whole issue.

I was into some of the Microsoft games like solitaire and I used to play the Gears of War mobile game, both because I could get achievements. Both were actually fun, but Gears used a ton of drive space and I really couldn't find the time for solitaire after a while (I'm considering reinstalling it though).

I don't play games on my phone mostly because I like to be more aware of my surroundings when I'm out and about.  The only games I played on my cell phone were ones that would only work on that format, not on an iPad.  So I played Pokemon GO for a little while as well as Pikmin Bloom and Pac-Man GEO, but that's it.  I do like playing some games on my iPad, though.  Especially the Animal Crossing mobile game.  That thing's been around for more than 4 years and I still play it!
