Expansion Pass 2 Game #5/Blog a Day #23

Hello everyone, how are you?

When it comes to RPG's I feel that the best ones come from Japan and Japan has released a lot of great ones these past few years. When it comes to JRPG's I believe there is something for everyone, whther you are looking for something beginner friendly like Pokemon or something with a much more deeper plot and character development like Final Fantasy. Today we are going to talk about what is possibly the most well known JRPG in these past few years. Let's get ready to send out the calling card as we take a look into Persona 5...

Persona 5

We all wear masks but which one is real? The one that hides your face, or the one that is your face?

I got into Persona in 2017, well I think it may have been late 2016 that I got into 3. I loved it and then I decided to get Persona 4 Golden on the Vita, I finished it and I loved it too. I didn't get Persona 5 till later in 2017 when I got a PS4. I waited a while, it was hard but I avoided dodging spoilers but I was finally able to try it out. So how's the game?

In Persona 5 you play as a high school student who's codename is Joker. I mean you can name him whatever you like as a real name but we will refer to him by the codename he gets in the game. In the game you play as Joker and in the game you attend school in Tokyo and you pretty much have to make use of your time wisely as you have one year in in-game time before the game ends.

Like I mentioned, in the game you have to balance your life like a sim game I suppose by attending school. The game has a day and night cycle and the activities you can do vary by the time of the day. During the day you attend school, afterschool is when you can do whatever you want. You can either study, work at a part-time job, or hang out with one of the various characters that you meet in the game called Confidants. You can even romance one of the various female characters in the game as well. At night the activities you can do change, there are some part-time jobs available during different times of the day and there are some Confidants that are only available at night. Or you can go to sleep if you want to end the day.

Persona 5

She's my most favorite character in the game

Or during the day you can enter the Metaverse, no not the dumb Facebook one. The Metaverse is another world that is home to story-related dungeons called Palaces and they are filled with enemies called Shadows. Good news is that you won't be going alone on your quest to reform society as during the game you'll encounter characters who will join you on your journey as party members known as The Phantom Thieves. To fight the Shadows, you can summon your Persona which is basically a manifestation of The Phantom Thieves' inner psyche. Palaces are where you'll be spending your time in order to advance the plot of the game. However you must complete the main objective of a Palace before a time limit that is given to you or you'll get a game over. Eventually you'll also be able to go to Mementos, a dungeon with randomly generated floors.

The gameplay has also been improved upon and I think this game has the best gameplay in the series. Everything has been tweaked and refined. The music is really great as well I really thinkt hey did a great job as it really captures the tone and theme of the game that they were going for. When it comes to music I feel like Atlus really goes all out for their games.

"But Captain N, where can I play this game?" Well this game is available on both the PS3 and PS4. I imagine the PS3 version is rare by now so I'd say get the PS4 version. If you don't mind going digital, it goes on sale quite often. Alternatively, you could just get Persona 5 Royal on the PS4, which is an enhanced version of Persona 5 which adds new gameplay mechanics as well as more story content.  It's your choice which one you wanna get.

Persona 5

Always make sure you have different Personas for any situation in a fight

Final Thoughts: Persona 5 is among one of the best JRPG's out there and and it's definitely one of the best ones I've ever played. The cast of characters are great, I really love their personalities so much. The music is so good, I really loved it. And to me I feel that the best thing about the game is definitely the gameplay, it's really good.

The first Persona game I played was 3, then from there I played 4, and then from that 5. 3 is personally my most favorite due to the story. 4 in my opinion has the best characters. And 5 has the best gameplay in the series. It shows how much the series has evolved from the prior entires and I can only wonder how Persona 6 will be. I feel like Persona 5 will be hard to topple but I think they can do it as long as the game is different but fun.

The only reason I didn't add Royal instead is because it didn't release between 2010-2019 like the other games on these lists, otherwise this spot might have belonged to Royal. If I had to recommend which one to get, I'd say get Royal since it's basically like the vanilla version, just with extra content that extends the game. Whichever version you decide to get, I can at least assure you that you'll have a great time and there's definitely nothing like it out there.

Persona 5

Always gets me excited when I fight the Reaper

Sometimes society may not be fair but that doesn't mean to just accept it. You too can have the power to fight in this unjust society...

Well that is the first game of the Top 5 games on this list. Game #4 coming soon. Thanks for reading and...

I hated high school, so I don't have much of a desire to play a game where I'm in high school again.  Plus these games are way too long.

I played Persona 4 several different times, first on the PS2, then on the Vita. I didn't see it all the way through but I enjoyed what I played. I was curious about 5 when it came out, but I haven't gotten to it yet. The persona battle system is a really neat idea and I like the way it connects to the story outside of battles, your relationships with the other players and such. I really got to check it out again. I wonder if their ever going to remaster the earlier games in the series. I'd be interested to play them.
