Well this is Cathedrals last album. They started out in 1989 by Lee Dorrian (Lead Singer) and Mark Giffiths. Lee was orignaly with Napalm Death a punk band which was making its move toward a more Death Metal sound. Not being to down with that Lee decided to leave and go in the way of Doom Metal, which has fitted him perfectly.

So here is the offical video release of the song (Tower of Silence) off the album The Last Spire.

The Last Spire Track list

1. Entance to Hell

2. Pallbearer

3. Cathedral of the damned

4. Tower of Silence

5. Infestation of Grey Death

6. An Observation

7. The Last Laugh

8. This Body Thy Tomb

My Favorite Track off the Album is "Infestation of Grey Death" It is full of Doom and dread as a good Doom song should be. Meanacing and dreadful, slow and drudging. When Doom is done right this album is what it sounds like. If you are a Fan of Cathedral then you need to get this album or if you are a new fan of Doom Start with this album and work backwards.

So in my opinion this album gets five \m/ \m/ \m/ \m/ \m/ out of five!

Now my Metal Heads, GO FORTH AND METAL!

Are you gonna do these reviews instead of the normal Metal Mondays? I can't really get into Doom metal, but I do like your rating system. Cool

It is something I am toying with. I will do all types of Metal each week will be a different band.

I'm not really into Doom metal like this, either, honestly, too under-produced sounding for my tastes. I realize that's part of the point, sometimes, it's just not for me. Couldn't find "Infestation of Grey Death" on Youtube, either, which is weird cause it typed in the band name for me ...

I do like the introductory bit though; I've always heard Lee Dorrian's name, but couldn't remember where from. And Napalm Death was a punk band? I guess I've only ever heard their later stuff then. Interesting.

I agree with Abobo, nice rating system. m/

Not true Punk more like hardcore with punk elements. they got more death metal over the years. A lot of bands that started out around 81 to 85 started as punk bands because of the influence of Punk and hardcore at the time.

I actually prefer Doom metal to Black metal, except for Dimmu Borgir[which I really like!]because it harkens back to Black Sabbath in a way. I had heard of Cathedral, but knew little about them. Nice start to your album review metal blog series!

Dimmu is awesome. Have you heard OV Hell. Another great project of the lead singer. I hope others will like it. Thank you.

I will look into that. I got to see Dimmu Borgir play here in Tulsa. It was such an epic show for the Cain's Ballroom. We are not used to having a Norwegian black metal band come here to the Bible Belt! They were so intense onstage, yet they made sure to interact with us frequently.

Since I don't know very well Doom Metal, I guess this could be a good start into the genre. I quite liked that single.

A bit unrelated, but hey, its me, Alex from 1up, I finally created an account here.

I remember listening to a lot of Candlemass at one point in time. For awhile "bewitched" was one of my favorite songs. Every once in awhile I re-visit them via watching old youtube music videos!
