Games Beaten

-Blaster Master Zero 3 (Switch)

BMZ3 feels like a step back. The gameplay, while solid, has not changed in any meaningful way, and the planet variety from BMZ2 is gone. This game's big addition—super-dimensional space—does little more than complicate the map. On one hand the devs found ways to get me to use the other weapons, but on the other I felt the bosses were largely uninspired compared to the previous games. Plus the story gets real bizarre by the end. Finishing it started to become a chore.

Games Bought

March was a slow month. I got my hands on a physical copy of Metroid Prime Remastered (Switch), which made me very happy. Otherwise I picked up a digital WiiU games before the eShop shut down: DuckTales Remastered (everyone in my family but my wife has now given this a try and enjoyed it) and Dungeons and Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara, a collection of well-regarded arcade action RPG beat-'em-ups from back in the '90s. Capcom was kind enough to put a bunch of their games on sale (why wasn't everyone doing this???) and I got those for $3 each. I also grabbed CodeVein (PS4) from the month's PS+ offerings. It's a Souls-like game but with an anime flare.

Games Being Played

-Metroid Prime Remastered (Switch)

This remaster seems really well done. It's so awesome to be playing my all-time favorite game but now on the Switch!

-DuckTales Remastered (WiiU)

After seeing my kids playing on Easy, I decided to try this on Hard and it's not so bad. Challenging without being unfair. The game looks great and I love the music.

-Picross S Genesis & Master System Edition (Switch)

Continuing my slow march (mostly before bed) through this game.

-Destiny 2 (PS5)

Speaking of slow marches, been working through the current season's story recently and they randomly killed off a long-running named character! What??

-Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (Switch)

We are either in or close to the final rank but progress is slooow. These monsters do not take kindly to being hunted!

You're still as busy as ever, I see. I really want Metroid Prime, but it will have to wait, because I've got a month to go before I see my first paycheck of the season from the park.

Metroid Prime Remastered is worth the wait! I hope the park season goes well.

I'm glad I got a physical version of Metroid Prime Remastered.  I've been playing it a bit recently.  They don't make games like this too often anymore.

I loved DuckTales Remastered.  It would've been my GOTY when it was released, but Animal Crossing on the 3DS came out that year, too, so, well....

I can't believe I'm playing two great remastered games at the same time lol. The game has made my kids go through a DuckTales cartoon binge as well.

Which one?  The original 1987 one or the 2016 one?

I like them both, but the original is still my favorite of the two.

The newer one but maybe they'll go back to the original once they finish it. I have especially fond memories of that DuckTales magic lamp movie.

The new one is still really good.  I consider it more of a tribute to the Disney Afternoon and Disney's syndicated TV history as a whole.  I mean, the episodes make reference to not just the old DuckTales, but also Darkwing Duck, Rescue Rangers, Gummi Bears, TaleSpin, and even The Wuzzles!  There's even an episode where they play the Moon Theme from the NES DuckTales game!  I would've loved to have seen them make a DuckTales game based on the new cartoon, but have it play like the old Capcom games.  They could even call it DuckTales 3!

I got those two DnD games a long while back and thought they were pretty great. I come across them in my vast digital library from time to time and think about replaying them.

I wonder if the Metroid remaster has a different control feel, especially on the Switch. I always had some issues with the controls on both GameCube and Wii.

Prime Remastered has all the control schemes, basically. The new addition, though, is true twin stick controls. I bet that would solve your problems.

I could never get comfortable with Metroid Prime's controls, but maybe this new one will be better. I'd like to see the entire game.

Just finished Metroid Prime Remastered (I was able to get a physical copy on Amazon). What a game! The graphics, gameplay, and controls are all perfect.

I haven't played any of the Blaster Master Zero games. Which one would you recommend?

Throw the first one in your eShop wishlist and wait for a sale and then give it a try. If you enjoy that one, I'd recommend the second also but I'd say pass on the third one. It really feels like they made a third game because they had narratively committed themselves to a third game, not because they still had cool ideas to explore.

I'm very jealous of people getting to play the Metroid Prime remaster. It's not my all-time favorite but it definitely is a great game.

I can't remember if you have a Switch or not. Metroid Prime really holds up well.

I only have a PS5 and my ROG laptop as far as this gen.
