Games Beaten
-Shadowrun Returns (Switch)
Shadowrun Returns is saved by its writing. The graphics and music, while fitting the world, are not impressive. The battles (on Normal, at least) are not difficult. The game is a narrative tunnel, with just one or two sidequests in total. You do have a lot of options for your character, which is nice, but it's the world and characters that make this game compelling (for me anyway). The writing is really well done! I thoroughly enjoyed my time in this cyberpunk-fantasy world.
-Hades (Switch)
I normally have trouble getting into run-based games because losing can be so demoralizing but Hades manages to avoid those feelings completely. First of all the game is just so fun and satisfying to play. It's pretty fair too (I know when I die it's my fault). The game also does a great job introducing new elements and mixing up the experience to keep it fresh. Plus the story and characters are very engaging and I want to know what happens with everyone.
Games Bought
The only games I got in July were the PS+ ones for the PS5. Endling - Extinction Is Forever has you playing the last mother fox on Earth as you try to protect and care for your young. My 8-year-old tried playing this once and was very upset when one of the baby foxes starved to death. There was also Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War, which I would be interested in playing the single-player campaign for but gosh, the download size is over 300 gigs. Maybe someday. Finally there was Alan Wake Remastered. I played the original version of this on the Xbox 360 and enjoyed it quite a bit. Wouldn't mind revisiting this one but there's the whole "having enough time for everything" that is burdening my life.
Games Being Played
-Hades (Switch)
I may have "seen all the content" but there is still a bunch of story I have not experienced yet and they are still introducing new ways to modify the runs to keep things fresh. The internet tells me I will need to best Hades ten times to get the whole story and I'm at three right now and still very much enjoying the game.
-Destiny 2 (PS5)
Coming into the final couple weeks of the current season.
-Depixtion (Switch)
About 2/3 of the way through the puzzles but they are a lot bigger now and taking a lot longer to finish.
-Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (Switch)
I can't believe we are finally in the endgame crawl. These monsters are very angry.
