Games Beaten

Frown

Games Bought

September was a pretty barren month over here—Look! A tumbleweed just blew past!—and the only purchase I have to report is Battlefield 1 (PS4). My wife found it in great condition at a thrift store for 80 cents and, ya know, it does have a singleplayer campaign, so maybe I'll try that one day.

Games Being Played

-The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Switch)

I'll be honest, ten hours in and this game has not grabbed me yet. I know it's a long haul but I'm surprised I feel so blasé about it. I've gotten all the powers but I haven't done anything interesting with them other than highly scripted segments and when I try making things out in the wide world, it usually doesn't end up working. But I recently got hired at the newspaper and just got to the wind temple, so I am hoping that things will pick up. I also haven't gotten to the underground section yet, so I am looking forward to that.

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (Switch)

Still in the end game crawl.

Rayman Legends (Wii U)

I started this game because I wanted something very straightforward and goal-oriented to play and this fit the bill beautifully. I have finished several worlds. There are tons of unlockables, like extra characters and skins and creatures and even bonus levels. It's a shame I sat on this game for the better part of a decade.

Depixtion (Switch)

The puzzles have gotten quite big (24x24) and it's kind of past my ideal size but they're still fun.

Destiny 2 (PS5)

Quite apart from Destiny, my PS5 controller has started to drift in both sticks, which is maddening to say the least, especially since the controllers are so expensive. It's under a year old, so should be covered by the warranty but still, I'm sure it will be a pain in the butt getting Sony to fix it.

I played Tears of the Kingdom all the way throught.  Took me 2 months to beat and the Switch says I spent 100 hours on it.  So I must've liked it somewhat.  With that said, it's not going to win my Game of the Year award.

Yeah, I'm going to need to have some sort of "Aha!" moment where it clicks with me for TotK to have any chance against some of the other games I've played this year.

I still remember vividly the tank sequence in Battlefield 1. Really cool to get into a WWI tank and roll around in it. Scary too.

I'm always meaning to get back to Rayman Origins and Legends. I think those games are gorgeous, funny, and have great music.

Rayman Legends holds up really well. I saw that it got a Switch release at some point (maybe for the other consoles too, I don't know), so there are current ways to play it. There are some levels meant to be played with touch on the Wii U gamepad screen, so I'm curious how those are handled but otherwise, yeah, you wouldn't know it's ten years old.
