Since you have Apple Arcade I thought I'd tell you about a really fun game you can try. Recently a game released on the Switch called Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On! It's an enhanced port of the same game that was on the 3DS. Turns out that enhanced port is also on Apple Arcade! It's a game that combines solitaire with...horse racing? Yeah, really, but it's VERY GOOD! It was made by a company called Game Freak. You might've heard of another game series they made, a little franchise you might know called Pokemon. :) Anyway, you should try Pocket Card Jockey out if you get a chance. It's fun!

Good morning Pixlpeeps! It’s been a minute but I’m back, and how about that we get an extra day in February. Well it’s been a different couple of weeks where it’s either been cold and rainy, really warm, and now windy in Vegas, but either way I like it. I do wish we had more snow this year but I think that’s over now. Anyways let’s go into what I’ve been playing and what I finished.
Chris Finished:
Gotham Knights - Steam: First off, I actually liked this game. I heard mixed reviews and I can see why, but at the same time it was an enjoyable experience especially having the ability to switch out between four characters and experience their back stories. Gotham still feels like the Gotham I saw in the previous Batman trilogy and there is a lot more of it. I do like that the enemies also get stronger as you progress so it doesn’t feel like a cake walk and the side missions are fun. One of my favorites are the side missions where the bad guys have bombs and you have to sneak around and not be seen. My jump into the middle and start kicking ass approach doesn’t work here which makes me plan out attacks.
Now there are things that I really didn’t like, mainly using the motorcycle. It’s slow! Having speed lines doesn’t make it seem to go faster, and coming from the last Batman movie where the Batmobile feels like a sports car, this was a disappointment. Also the bike looks goofy as hell. I felt the last level of the game was made purely to frustrate the player.
For this game I also used mods so this helped out a lot especially in the last level, but I wished there were more to the mods. I couldn’t get the fast motorcycle mod to work, but everything else was fine and it was fun to have some moments where I was the unbeatable superhero (I didn’t use this often).
Overall I thought it was a solid game, it had it’s problems and now I’m currently going through the levels that are in the cave at the top of the map (I have no idea what they are called). This would be a lot of fun with friends but I’m playing solo so remember that unbeatable superhero thing? I may be using this at points. Anyways fun game I give it a B+
Chris Plays:
Red Dead Redemption 2 - Steam: This was the game that I was kind of excited to finally get around to playing and well I’m not enjoying it as much. In fact I think it’s really slow. I have to preface this with I am also playing with a trainer so it has it’s moments when my character can run around shoot explosive ammo and always get perfect pelts. That part is fun, the actual guts of the game, mainly the main missions not so much. I think the things with a game like Gun I feel it does the Western genre right, while with RDR2 it seems it almost more realistic but for me it doesn’t hold my attention. I wish it did because the game is absolutely beautiful and when the wind blows the falling leaves are amazing.
Hopefully the game picks up because right now I’m starting Chapter 3 and more of the cities are opening up but as of right now it’s just a slog to progress through the game.
NBA 2K23 - Steam: I thought about buying 2K24 because it’s on sale but instead I saved that cash and went back to old reliable continued playing my full season in Franchise Mode with the Bulls. It’s been a minute so I had to shake off some rust especially digging out of a 20 point deficit to finally having a huge second half cruising to victory. At least my free throws are starting to hit. After this I don’t think I need the next version and I can probably wait for 2K25. I should go look for a new roster so I can play with the updated Clippers.
NCAA Football Revamped (NCAA Football 14) - PS3 Emulator (PC): The Aztecs are in the National Title Game! After a crazy off season where I created a conference of top academics there will be some movement again after this game. I’m planning on moving Oregon to the B1G. I hope the new College Game you can still do things like that and most of all I hope it’s on PC because I’m not buying a new PlayStation or XBox.
Retro Bowl+ - Android (Play Pass): On my tablet I decided to start a new Franchise so I was assigned the Washington Commanders. So far they are 3-0 with a comeback win against Cincinnati. Also it’s been a bit since I’ve played this game because there’s a sim mode now. I started this again because I wanted to try the college version, but I didn’t want to pay the two bucks. If I get hooked on this game again maybe I’ll give that other game a try. Also it’s funny how it’s two bucks and I really don’t want to buy it.
Disney Spell Struck - iOS (Apple Arcade): This is basically Scrabble with a Disney skin. The point of the game is you play games against the computer that has different difficulty ratings. You win a game that consists of I believe 4 turns each, you earn a letter token and advance in the Disney Map. When you win a land you unlock a Disney Character. Simple enough and you get various powerups and before the last turn in the game the bonus squares add an additional 10 points. Since I’m still early in the game the powerups aren’t needed because I’ve been winning games by at least 40 points. When I encounter a Medium Character it drops to 10-20 points, and I have yet to experience a Hard Character.
Randoms:
-I’m planning on playing more on Play Pass/Apple Arcade because I have my phone and or tablet on me the majority of the day, especially the phone. When I have breaks at work puzzle games like Spell Struck will come in handy.
-I migrated my Steam files off a 1TB that was starting to give me some problems. I have since reformatted it and it seems to work fine. It’s currently on a pile of my old 4TB drives that are not being used since I’ve upgraded to 8TB drives.
-I finished my 7th book of 2024. I read the AXE Judgement Day storyline from the 2023 Marvel Comics. I followed the checklist from the first comic and just followed it to get the full story. I thought I would enjoy it, and I did but it wasn’t as good as I hoped.
Alright Pixlpeeps I am off, it’s a rare leap year day and I need to get some stuff done. Have a good one!
That’s all for now, more later!
-Chris
