On this episode of The Pizza Pixel Podcast, my brother Jeff and I talk about our favorite cartoons with more adult humor and themes.  Most of the time our podcasts are fairly family friendly, and this one is, too.  But we do talk about some cartoons that younger kids may not be ready for yet, so just keep that in mind if you listen to this podcast with your kids.  But it’s still mostly family friendly.  Please click on the link below and give it a listen if you can.  I’d really appreciate it.  There’s a short little secret song at the end, too!

The Pizza Pixel Podcast Episode 22: Favorite Adult Cartoons

And that’s all for now!  In the comments section, let me know what YOUR favorite adult cartoons are!  Later!  --Cary

Well, at one point I was really into what came out on Adult Swim online. Favorites from that were Venture Bros. and Robot Chicken.

It was hard for me to get into the Adult Swim stuff because it came on when I was sleeping! :)

I was working late night at the time and it was the perfect thing when I came home in the wee hours.

I'm glad I don't have to work late nights anymore.  That got old fast.

I worked something like 5 to late, which is anywhere between 12 and 2 in the morning, for the longest time. Only in the last 5 years or so have I been getting up at 7am and working in the mornings or afternoons. It's good for gaming with my friend Mark who lives largely on a farmer's schedule of dawn to dusk.

I worked from 3 pm to 12 midnight.  That got old fast, so after about nine months of that, they had a position open in the plumbing department from 10 am to 7 pm, which is pretty good for retail hours.  I didn't want to move to plumbing, but you can't beat those hours, so I made the switch.  And i've been there ever since and it's been about 7 years or so.

I either work mornings now 9-1 or afternoons 1-5 or 2-6. All weekends too. It's like Friday-Tuesday is my work week. It's weird and sort of temporary. I need to work more, but at what I'm not sure yet.

I watched a lot of this stuff when I was in high school. I still watch Simpsons, KotH, and Futurama, and I still pull out the Simpsons arcade game once in awhile. I'm really gotten into Bob's Burgers over the years, and I even went to see the Bob's Burgers movie in theaters.  My favorite episode was the one where they spoofed My Little Pony and the "brony" subculture around it.

One funny thing: in the episode where Bart is home-schooled, I was home-schooled, too. And at the time that episode came out, my assigned reading was Johnny Tremaine, which is what Bart was reading. And like Bart, I was a lot more enthusiastic about the book when I read the scene where Johnny's hand got deformed. "They should call this book 'Johnny Deformed!'"

On the subject of Garfield: Did you ever read Garfield: His 9 Lives? Especially that one story. You know the one I'm talking about.

My favorite adult animation in recent years was F is for Family, which is on Netflix and was based on the childhood of creator Bill Burr. It's kind of rough at times, but it's funny and i like the voice cast, which includes Jonathan Banks (Mike from Breaking Bad) as the voice of one of the grandfathers, and Kurtwood Smith (Red from That 70s Show) as the other grandfather.

I have some trepidation about the KotH reboot, since a lot of the voice cast has since passed away, namely Brittany Murphy, Tom Petty, and most recently Johnny Hardwick (Dale).

My brother Jeff likes Bob's Burgers, too.  I wonder if he's seen that "Brony" episode since he kind of was one back in his college days.

All my brothers on my dad's side were homeschooled.  They had a totally different life than I did!

I have that Garfield: His 9 Lives book.  It's a work of art, in my opinion.  I know which comic you're talking about, but that could really be said for a lot of the comics in that one.  That book alone caused all the Garfield books in the Library of Congress to be moved from the kids section to the adult section!  I can't believe they made a TV special out of it, even though it's heavily watered down and they omitted some of the book's stories entirely.  I also didn't like how at the end, they made God have cat eyes.  Just didn't sit right with me.

Oh no!  The voice of Dale died?  He was also the voice of Lil' Gideon's dad from Gravity Falls!

I always watched The Simpsons and Family Guy growing up, and my family also liked these shows. I just heard South Park won't be on your favorites list but I like some of the newer episodes, like Randy getting followed by the Japanese government over bidet marketing.

Otherwise, I like a lot of adult animes like Fullmetal Alchemist and Cowboy Bebop, etc.

Lisa was always my favorite character cause my older brother was more the Bart of the family ... do with that what you will. lol

Bidet marketing?  I kind of do that at work (I work in the plumbing section of a major hardware chain).

I think in the future, we'll do a podcast about our favorite anime cartoons.

Lisa and Raphael from TMNT are my favorite characters for mostly only one reason: their placement of their joysticks in the arcade games!
