In which tech either makes or breaks

So, that Acer Aspire laptop I blogged about last time? Screen doesn't come on. I've got to get this repaired (and hope that it doesn't cost too much) so until then, I'm using my trusty, won't-die Samsung Chromebook that I got back in 2017.

About a month ago, I saw an opportunity to get the Animal Crossing edition of the Switch console for $200 from a local pawn shop and took it. I had to clean off some fingerprints and sanitize it but I've had it for nearly a month and everything works great. I had to buy a USB-to-Ethernet adaptor (weird that the docking stations didn't have this from the start) and a Switch Pro Controller. After spending 4+ years on the Switch Lite, it feels weird having to option to play these games on a tv. For games that require consistent internet connection (Mario Kart, F-Zero 99), it's been better when docked and a Pro controller in my hand. Hopefully the Joy-Cons hold out for a while.

I know the Switch 2 was recently announced and that some are already declaring its predecessor dead and buried but that's silly. A console is only dead when you stop using it. Nintendo isn't dropping support for the third best-selling console of all time anytime soon. Given that some light has been shed on the "backwards compatibility" feature of the S2, I'm not getting rid of my Switch ever. I'm also gonna wait at least a year to get a S2. I need the library to grow, for certain kinks to be ironed out and for the price to come down (A Switch 2 Lite, perhaps?).

I recently finished The Champion's Ballad DLC for Breath of the Wild and it was so fun and touching. I love the Master Cycle Zero but I'm concerned that I won't use my horses as much in the future. I also finished Rise of the Ronin for PS5. While there's endgame stuff to do, I'm gonna wait on that. I truly enjoyed my time with the game. It has its rough edges but Team Ninja really delivered on an open world action game. One of the best combat systems that I've played.

I recently got Assassin's Creed Shadows and after 24 hours its become one of my favorite games in the series so far. The stealth and combat systems are brilliant, the look and sound of the game is impressive (the Unity engine doing wonders here) and I love how the two main characters feel in terms of control.

I've bounced off of COD Warzone completely. My group of friends have been playing alternate choices like Battlefield V, BF1 and Chivalry 2. Last night we tried to do an online session of Turtles In Time Arcade (part of the Cowabung Collection) only to find that the matchmaking and online servers are lackluster.

I've also given my black DSi handheld a new lease on life with a new battery and stylus. I've used it mostly for a playthrough of Animal Crossing Wild World but I love that I have this option in my collection.

I'm probably going to go ahead and get the Switch 2 at launch. Might as well. It is getting off to a messy start, but the games at least look great.

I might still get the Switch 2 at launch just so I can have something new to review games on.  But we'll just have to see what they decide on after delaying the pre-order date.  I'll definitely be changing how I buy games, though.  Might even start to try and rent them.  I bet if the prices go up, the game renting scene might make a comeback!  Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, and ESPECIALLY Kirby Air Riders looks like a lot of fun, though.  But yeah, the Switch isn't dead yet!  In fact, depending on how much they cost, I just might get the orignal Switch versions of Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon Legends ZA instead of the Switch 2 versions.  Same goes with Shadow Labyrinth and Tamagotchi Plaza.  I guess I don't HAVE to have those fancy graphics.
