Sorry I've been AWOL. Getting back in the swing of things working full time at the park and not part time at the pet store is always a bit exhausting. Anyway, I'm back. This is going to be a short update, because I'm tired and I need to get up early.

Playing: Mostly bouncing back and forth between a couple of cozy sims. I've been playing Cozy Grove off and on since last summer. I took a break, because one of the quests required a certain set of clothing items in certain colors, and I spent two months waiting for the last item to show up in the shop, and it never did, and I was stuck and unable to advance in the game until I found it. I've transcended all of the bears at this point, and now I'm just trying to discover all of the items in all of the collections. The other game is Sunseed Island, a new game that came out last week or maybe the week before. I'm planning on writing a review of it, so I'm not going to say much here.

Watching: Nothing very interesting.

Reading: I've been reading a lot more lately. Since my last update, I've read three books and a short story. Sabriel by Garth Nix is the first book in a YA fantasy series. It was pretty good. Hounded by Kevin Hearne is an urban fantasy novel where the main character is a 2,000 year old Irish Druid. It was ok, The Rivers of London and The Dresden Files are, in my opinion, better reads. It's the first book of a series and I'm on the fence about whether I want to read the rest. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, either. The third book was The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. I highly recommend that one. Again, the first book in a series, but from what the friend who recommended it to me said, all the books take place in the same universe, but each has a different cast of characters. And the short story was called Compulsory, and is part of The Murderbot Diaries.

INCREDIBLY EXCITING NEWS: I'm getting a Switch 2!!! My nephew preordered one from two different retailers, hedging his bets. He had a friend lined up to buy the extra, but that fell through yesterday, so he offered it to me. He'll deliver it to me in person the week after he gets it. It's the Mario Kart World bundle.

Nighty-night, fellow Pixlbit ghosts. Until next time.

Ooh! That's awesome that you'll get a Switch 2! We did not even try to preorder one. We'll get it eventually.

I've always been interested in those Becky Chambers books but I have never once seen them used anywhere, which I guess speaks well to their quality.

It's always funny hearing people talk about game mechanics and not know what the mean (I know I do this on here too). Congrats on transcending all the bears! Laughing

I have never owned a system at launch before, so this is a new experience, lol.

The bears in Cozy Grove are all ghosts, and you have to find out why they're stuck and can't move on, and you do that by doing quests for them to uncover their memories. I've got a blog post planned for later about cozy sims and I'll go into Cozy Grove in more depth.

About used books - check out Thriftbooks.com, I find a lot of books I'm looking for there.

I have ordered from Thriftbooks before. It's a good site! I have so many books now, though, that either I am buying something I want to read right now or it's the impulse buy of "Hey, what are the odds I'd find this book I know is good at Local Thrift Store!"

Oh wow, you're playing Sunseed Island?  I just got finished writing my review for that  It's not posted at the GamerDad site yet, as there's a bit of a queue before it.  Here's a tip while playing: when chopping down trees and picking at rocks, you'll sometimes get little bugs and artifacts.  Don't sell them just yet!  You'll need them later.

Congrats on getting a Switch 2!  I just BARELY was able to preorder one myself.  I recruited some of my family to help me pre-order it, and one of them was able to at Best Buy.  I know it may sound silly, but keep me in your thoughts and prayers that they won't cancel the preorder or something else goes wrong.  Having a Switch 2 right away will really help me review games, since all I got right now is just a Switch and PS4.

I really shouldn't be buying such an expensive piece of hardware right now.  But the way I see it, while saving money is important, you also have to treat yourself every once in a while and live life in the moment.  I don't go out to eat or go to movies or anything like that.  Video games are most of all I've got right now to stay sane, so that's why I went ahead and got a Switch 2 (hopefully).

I'd love to be able to boycott Nintendo right now because all the crap they've been doing lately.  But I only believe in boycotting if it doesn't hurt you or inconvienence you in any way.  And right now, none of the other console makers have anything I want to play.  PS5 only has one game, Astro Bot, and the X/S doesn't have anything.  But the Switch 2 already has more than five games coming out for it I want to play, with promise of more for the future.  I know it sounds weird for me to want to boycott Nintendo, but it's not the first time I preferred another company's console (PSOne over N64, 360 over Wii, etc.).

Most of all, I'm hoping when I get my Switch 2, that my brothers and friends will want to come over and play it with me.  My brothers and I especially have a soft spot for Kirby Air Ride, so Kirby Air Riders was the system seller for me.  And maybe I can play Mario Kart World with YOU!  You'll know it's me because I'll be playing as Toad!

There was a bug in Sunseed Island that caused the trees and rocks not to respawn after a while, so I deleted my first game and started over after they updated it. In my first play, I didn't realize about the bugs and artifacts, so when I had to start over, I kept one of every new thing. The other bug was that the mushrooms for each island were showing up on the wrong islands. I did think that it was odd that I was getting lava mushrooms on an ice island.

Have you played Bug & Seek yet? I keep meaning to ask you that. I think you'd like that one.

I hve the same feelings as you about spending the money on the Switch2. That's almost a month's rent for me, but I did just get my income tax refund, and I used to use that money to go visit my mom when she lived on the west coast, and now she lives two towns away, so I figured "why not?" As for Mario Kart, I've never really been into Mario Kart. It wasn't the bundle I would have chosen, but hey, not going to complain. I just don't know how much I'll actually play it. Personally, I'm hoping for a new Animal Crossing to come out soon. I finished my museum, have a bunch of really cool rooms, and only one of my friends still plays, they aren't updating with any new stuff, so I kind of wandered off, leaving my house to the cockroaches and my village to the weeds.

Since the Switch Animal Crossing game is the 2nd best selling game on that console, I'm sure we'll get a new one on Switch 2.  It's just a matter of when, not if.  i played Animal Crossing New Horizons for a full year, and then a few months later came back when they added the Happy Home Paradise DLC and did that for another couple of months.  So that's pretty good.

If you want to play a really good game that's a lot like Animal Crossing, try Hello Kitty Island Adventure.  It's actually VERY GOOD.  My GOTY so far.  Really!

Cozy Grove looks fun. I'm interested in your upcoming cozy sims blog. I sometimes look for games like that just to chill out with. Clicker Heroes is that for me now, but I'm looking forward to Farm Together 2, which should be coming to console any day now, I just haven't seen anything yet. It's been out on PC since last year. I'm dying to play it.

I overheard some coworkers talking about the Murderbot Diaries, but I thought it was a TV show because they are always talking about TV shows. I'll have to investigate the books now.

Cool! I want one so I can get GameCube games with the subscription, but that's not enough to justify the expense. I hope friend requests work across Switch systems.

I missed out because the store websites all crashed. I'm going to make one last stab at getting a Switch 2 by hanging out at Gamestop the day before launch, as they say they'll have entras for in-store purchases. We'll see how that goes, as everybody else will have the same idea. I did sign up for an invite, but even though I signed up early, the only thing I've gotten is an email assuring me that I'm still in the invite queue. I'm definitely jelly. If I can snag a Switch 2, I'm probably going to get Cyberpunk with it.
