My Friday "Night-Life": On Friday, my older brother called to tell me he was taking his truck, which apparently several hobos and an ex-con who helped him, as well as its previous owners, thought was due to a faulty fuel pump, was out of commission, and he'd be calling AAA to get it towed to the mechanic near our house, since that's basically the family mechanic and there wasn't much near him he could trust as well. So I stayed up so that after he'd left the truck, I could give him a ride back to his place.
Well, when he called to tell me his truck was at the shop, he said he wanted me to help him move it from "the bay" into a parking spot ... now mind you, this was 1 A.M., and the only reason I had not gone to sleep before was his phone call, and in mental states like that, I tend to cede to the more awake person any decision making ... but I had a feeling he was going to do something we'd both regret, and when I got to the mechanic's, my suspicion was confirmed: he'd pushed the truck himself into a grassy patch right next to the highway and was trying to get it into a parking spot up the hill from the truck's position. I instantly regretted not trusting my instinct and telling him just not to move the truck until I got there, so I could probably have seen it was fine where it was before he moved it. There is a shop right behind our mechanic's owned by someone else, but I don't think his truck would have been in their parking lot. Luckily, after a few bouts trying on our own to turn the thing and get it up the hill, someone we flagged down stopped and helped us. Three of us pushing, the guy who stopped having his girlfriend on the break.
He kept saying how there was a voice in his head telling him not to move the truck himself ... I thought to myself it was probably my telepathic voice over the phone, but thinking not to add insult to injury or make him aware I'd failed to say this out of distrust for my tired self, especially since I was telling him I was awake enough to drive him back (don't like people driving my car if I can help it), I just didn't say anything.
That was my Friday night. Of course, that's a lot better than it being my vehicle, or getting caught in a tornado, so my thoughts are with the people of Granbury, TX and any other affected areas; hope they can rebuild soon.
Saturday Night Live: was decent this weekend, although in my opinion the opening sketch and monologue were the weakest part, and the show seemed to pick up steam later, even after Weekend Update. They were doing it out of order!
There were a lot of gay jokes, including the big send-off for both Seth Myers and Bill Hader (playing Stefon) being that they get married at the end of Weekend Update, and a fake ad for Xanax at gay weddings was a highlight for me, but my favorite part was the Hermes Handbags sketch after Weekend Update.
Not only does that sketch include my current favorite cast member, Cecily Strong, who plays my new favorite character, Girl You Wish You Hadn't Met at a Party, but it had Affleck delivering the best line: "my pants should come with a Snickers label, cause they're packed with nuts and always satisfy," read in a country accent.
I didn't really like Kanye West's performance though, and that's not cause I dislike his music; say what you want about his ego, "Testify" is an amazing song; but because he was doing some weird Andy Warhol-esque critique of modern America, with epileptic-fit-inducing flashes of colored coupons and things on the screen behind him, and using some distortion in his microphone, while he screamed some actually pretty good lyrics from what I heard, and it worked at first for me, but then it was just too distorted, and the second song sounded too similar, and I realized that while I appreciated what he was doing, I didn't actually like it, just thought it was something new ... that didn't work for me.
The Office: Gave me the feels with that season finale. Had not even been watching it for a few years since it was first aired, but damn it was good, funny, and really tied everything together nicely I thought. What I saw of it anyway, I actually came in a bit late in the show, but have it recorded, so will have to watch the rest.
Byron Nelson Tournament: Dad scored three free tickets to this golf event, so I went with my mom and him. Didn't really see much but a couple putts and a couple drives, and to be honest I'm not the biggest golf fan, but I did get a free pedometer and a BMI readout from the Humana tent.
Walked 7500+ steps at the tournament (that equated to roughly 3.4 miles according to some online source; not a great source, but sounded about right), and my stats on the BMi thing were
99.6 lbs Body Water
35.7 lbs Dry Lean Mass
52.3 lbs Body Fat Mass
So still need to lose more body fat, but I'm confident from my 30+ already lost, and can also simply gain muscle.
Demo Reel: Some of you may have seen the news projects I posted that I made in college. Currently trying to edit those into a thirty-second demo reel that will be sent to some places I want to apply to, like a Masters program and an apprenticeship. I'll update you on details later, maybe post it here once done.
Street Fighter X Mega Man: Figured out how to get past the first part of Castle Level 2, though it is still frustrating to execute without falling. This run, I actually beat most bosses with the Mega Buster, simply cause I couldn't figure out there weaknesses. Well, maybe more like half the bosses, but still. Going to try and get this off my backlog soon
What are you up to?
