Alone in the Dark is a survival horror game and was created by Atari and released for the Xbox 360, Wii and Windows on June of 2008 and the PS3 version was later released on November 18, 2008 and named alone in the Dark Inferno and includes several enhancements from other versions. The Ps2 and Wii version was completely different then the 360, and Ps3 versions although has a similar plot has largely different levels.

The gameplay in Alone in the Dark has a first and third person camera, puzzle solving style gameplay and before i go any farther let me say this game has 4 pages in the game manual on controls, this game has a ton of controls and theres nothing worse then getting mobbed by creatures and trying to figure out the controls, so for gods sake take the time to learn the controls, really the only problem i had with controls were the driving sequences when you feel like your on a ice road and sliding everywhere but any way the game takes place with Edward Carnby, a paranormal investigator and the main character, being taken to the roof of a building, to be killed. The guard is killed by an unseen force, allowing Edward to escape. He has amnesia and doesnt remember anything. As he wonders the building looking for the way out, he witnesses several people being killed or possessed by demonic forces. During his search for an exit, he meets Sarah Flores, an art dealer and together they make there way to the parking garage, so if this intro sounds good to you then chances are you will like this game, cause it only gets better from here.

So back to the gameplay as i said earlier its a puzzle solver and the enviroment plays a big part of the base gameplay, as you can pick up objects throughout the enviroment and use it as melee weapons, it can also be used to smash windows break doors and knock things over etc. Fire in the game is really really cool fire is generated in real time and objects can be set on fire by holding them over the fire or lighting them with the fire and some of the puzzles are solved by using fire like lighter fuel making a trail and lighting it like a fuse is really cool and they did awesome with the fire in this game and killing enemies with fire is a one hit drop ordeal and works really well so keep that in mind.

So the music in Alone in the Dark is scored by Oliver Deriviere the same guy who scored Obscured and Obscured 2 and is done very nice and sets the tone for a horror game, the graphics although dated do a very good job especially the fire it looks really cool, the voice acting is done very well to and you can tell they took time in doing this right. The controls are the problem there difficult to master mainly cause theres so many, but if you can get this down then the game is really fun and scary and very tense, ant the real time inventory is awkward and a pain but short of these flaws i loved it and would recommend it to any horror game player.

I remember playing this a while ago. My biggest (And only) gripe was the driving sequences. They just didn't control very well in my opinion, and I struggled long enough that I simply lost interest in the game whenever I was only a measly hour or two into the game. Even after I beat the driving segment, I was scared to go onward not because of the monsters, but for fear of encountering another driving sequence. lol

I remember how this game was unfairly panned by a lot of folks. I thought it was pretty good. But I really like horror games. The dreadful movie[with Christian Slater and Tara Reid] may have played a part in souring folks on this franchise. The Alone In The Dark game I had for Dreamcast was a good game as well.
