Ray Manzarek co-founder and Keyboardist of The Doors passed away monday, he was 74. His unique style allowed them to forego a bass player and added boogy woogy, jazz , and blues influences to their sound. He later went on to produce the progressive punk band X and wrote several  books about his expiriences with the Doors.

big fan of the Doors.  They were huge when I was growing up in psychedelic land.  Sad to hear this.

Very sad that cancer took another rock icon. Ray will live on as long as we have Doors records to listen to.

Yeah, they were a big influence on me growing up. Its just crazy when you realize how old these guys are now. When you listen to their music they seem timeless and immortal. I guesse in that way they are.

Sad. Those keyboards really set their stuff apart, too.

I have a very clear memory of hearing the Doors for the first time when I was a freshman in High School. I thought it was elevator music and completely boring. After hearing it more, I changed my mind and really loved it. I've had experiences like that with a lot of bands that I came to really like.

Manzarek basically found and encouraged Jim Morrison from the beginning. So if it wasn't for him. No Doors.

The man was an incredible musician who will be missed in the world of rock. I remember seeing some videos online of the remaining Doors performing with Ian Astbury[from The Cult] on vocals. Manzarek was still rocking out on the keyboards. He had such a cool and unique sound, unmistakable upon hearing it.
