sadface

This was SUPPOSED to be the day where Microsoft cleared the air. The day where they pulled things back into balance. The day they stole the thunder from the PS4 for themselves heading into E3.

Instead? Not only are the doubts still lingering, it turns out stuff we though MS was too stupid to dare trying is actually happening.

First, going back to the issue of used game fees: turns out that part isn't true. Although there's still a "solution" to trade-ins and resales that they can't talk about yet...perhaps because it will be far more restrictive of both, but they didn't want to bring that up now and steal any positive buzz from their big day? Nah, I'm being too paranoid.

After all, this little quote was all the buzzkill they needed. Taken from the first link above:

Kotaku: If I’m playing a single player game, do I have to be online at least once per hour or something like that? Or can I go weeks and weeks?

Harrison: I believe it’s 24 hours.

Kotaku: I’d have to connect online once every day.

Harrison: Correct.

This entire reveal has been a joke. I can't believe they fucked up their response to Sony this badly in just six hours. XD

I love the way all the websites are advertising for the new system and if you go down to comments sections the community is asking all the relevent questions about connectivity and such. Fucking game journalism is shit.

I don't know why they aren't pouncing all over this when they need those clicks, though. Why let Kotaku have the spoils? :p

I swear, all games journalism is just press releases.

Well i think its crap that people who dont have internet or at the very least doesnt have access on a daily basis, the military who have no internet and for all us gamers who dont play online is flat out just not thought of is total crap and if thats how much they care about the consumers then they wont be getting my $500 bucks or whatever this worthless system cost.

Almost ALL the worst rumors about the console have been proven true, at least in part. MS has to explain themselves big-time on this. Exclusive DLC is not gonna make up for this nonsense.

I'm waiting to see what happens, but it looks like I won't be getting the next XB.

You're hardly alone on that one.

Yeah, with the internet issue and also adding the used games situation, I think I won't be getting the new Xbox (and probably PS4, too). I think i'll stick to a Wii U, thank you very much Microsoft.

Off topic: It's me, Alex from 1up. I finally made an account.

Nice to see you man. :)

Don't get why MS is doing any of this stuff, frankly. I just hope Sony doesn't follow suit. -_-

Funny how you post a picture of a guy getting rained on when just when I was looking up summaries, our internet went out due to a rainstorm. Just came back on in fact. lol

Aaaaaand you know what that means: I can't play a single player XBOX One game if I'm within 24 hours of a really bad rainstorm. You know what the first thing I did was, cause the cable was out? Play F-Zero GX.

LMAO XD

It amazes me how these consoles seems to lose as much functionality as they gain as time goes on.

Sure, the PS2 didn't have all the media functionality and networking stuff built in. But I could easily sell, trade-in and borrow games for it, it was fully backwards compatible, and doesn't require a connection to the internet to authenticate games or just use the console for more than a day.

This is Sony's battle to lose at this point. If they confirm that the console doesn't have the same bullshit levels as MS, then they have a more consumer-friendly and powerful device that knows it's a console and provides free netplay. That's a much more attractive deal, especially if they're at similar price points.

I don't know about more powerful. IGN just posted a side-by-side PS4 vs Microsoft comparison with very similar hardware capabilities from what I saw, although a lot of key things were TBA or "Maybe" on either side. Those TBA/Maybe things are where Sony can lose ground or outright beat XBOX One in terms of consumer friendliness.

By the way, thanks for sharing the link, I referenced you and it in my blog.

So, the X1 has DRM built into the system level.  I guess I don't need to concern myself with this system any longer.  I suppose I should say that is a shame, but considering how this system is fragmenting its user base right from the start (game publishers can't sell games to the TV watching segment), this outcome was unavoidable.

They're trying way too many things at once with this IMO, and have clearly designed it around a tunnel vision mentality. It's a damn shame, really.
