disappointment

Some of the dust has settled, and I have had time to really think about it.  I do not care right now.  The Xbox One was revealed a couple of days ago to many people's disappointment.  I followed the reveal, and will agree that I was disappointed in Microsoft's show.  I will also say that I was a little disappointed in Sony's reveal a couple of months ago.  As it so happens, both companies left details out about their consoles.  Some details, while talked about, were left in a vague state.  At this point, I do not care.

I do not care about the vague promises of the next generation of gaming.  What I do care about is the concrete facts.  It also sounds like each company will be providing these facts at E3 this year.  Until then, I am starting to realize that it is futile to try and decide which next-gen console I would like.

With that in mind, I can hopefully clear my head of all of this business and focus on what is at hand.  Especially since this weekend is Memorial Day, my brother graduates from MSOE, my family is around, and most importantly...  beer.  On top of it all, I have plenty of awesome games at home to enjoy.

Of all the things that have annoyed me this week, I am most annoyed at myself.  I hate that I let Microsoft get the better of me.  It is a little premature for me to dismiss the xbox one.  A lousy reveal does not determine the quality of the machine, or in the ps4s case lack of one.

Microsoft is either trying to distance themselves from what they think is a coming video game crash, are arrogant enough to think that people don't know a $300 laptop can serve the exact same purpose as the One or (my thinking) that they treat their customers like crap and think they are still going to be lemmings and accept whatever paradigm they force on them. Judging from the Gamespot twitter battle, people have had enough of MS and their garbage.

Microsoft only cares about the money, not about quality, ease of use or good customer help. It's never going to change with them.

Happy Memorial Day.

I think that the xbox one could be pretty sweet, the only problem is that it is not what we expected.

Chris Kohler of Wired magazine and the Game/Life podcast mentioned that Microsoft might be in a similar state of arrogance and overconfidence that Sony was in at the launch of the PS3. With their recent successes, they think we will buy whatever they put out. They also assume the mainstream will also buy in and so offer lots of things they want. Sony was sure wrong with the PS3. I'm a little more optimisitic about Microsoft, but personally, I'm not so sure I'm on board yet. They may have gone a little too far trying to seduce the casual and nongamers. It's still early though and the games I like still have yet to be shown. E3 can't come soon enough for me to settle my thoughts on Xbox One.

One of my first thoughts was about other manufacturers third consoles.  Sega Saturn, N64, ps3...  is the xbox one going to follow in their footsteps

Ooo. That's a good comparison. I want to hear more about that.

If I were a betting man (And I guess I am to be honest, lol), I'd say that PS4 is also going with the Fee to play used games. Why else would EA suddenly pull all of their online passes?

It's just a theory though

When the Xbox One has enough good games on it that I want to play, then I might be more interested.  I love my 360 and PS3, but even I didn't get them right away.  Only when they had enough games I wanted.

this week has felt rather odd.  I am not ready to write off the xbox one yet.  I cannot wait until E3 comes and we all settle down.  Thank you for having a clear head about all this.

I was mosly just laughing at the reveal driving Sony's stock up. Whether or not it drives me away from One, or to buy a new system at all, this was just a bad idea on Microsoft's part.

the funny part is that the past two days sony's stock has dropped back down.

That neither surprises me, nor makes Microsoft's decision look any better though. lol
