I like this place, think I'll settle down here

First of all, thanks to all the pixlbit folks who rolled out the welcome mat for a bunch of sad, bewildered folks looking for a new home. I appreciate it, from Julian's official warm welcome to Nick putting a follow system in place just as we refugees started rolling in. And thanks to Michael for spreading the word about the website to all of us when we needed it.

I was a member of 1up since September 2004, so it feels very personal to me, the folding of a place I considered my home on the internet. I checked out a few sites, Playfire would have been an OK substitute, if they'd kept their beta format. IGN, well, it's OK, I hung out there for a bit when I was cranky about all the changes at 1up. I have some friends there, but it never felt like a comfy hang-out. I looked at Giant Bomb briefly. Very briefly. Too loud, too busy, too...I dunno, it just wasn't what I was looking for. Pixlbit seems like it has the spirit of what I felt at 1up. The sense of community and cameraderie that made me so comfortable at 1up for so long. So here I am, and looking forward to posting blogs and getting to know people.

Glad to hear it! I'm probably the biggest Giant Bomb fan here at PixlBit. I love the crew and they run my favorite podcast. But the community seems too crazy for my taste also. I'll check out comments whenever the site runs anything thought provoking (like Patrick's piece on the #1reasonwhy Twitter campaign) and it's so full of negativity that I have to go away.

But we're pretty chill around these parts. And I think the Gamemaster4747's of the world will probably end up at places like Destructoid anyway.

Recently signed up to Giantbomb and was surprised at how many responses there were to my blog. The comments did quickly devolve into penis and vagina gags, so I'll definitely post there with caution.

I was a lurker in the shadows at 1up, rarely commenting and/or posting blogs but I think with the closure of 1up I will start to become more active.

Nothing wrong with lurking, I lurked on 1up for almost a year before I actually wrote anything. If it hadn't been for my first two real friends on 1up, I wouldn't have become as involved as I did.

Hey Tami! So glad to have 1up's Rangergirl here! Looking forward to reading your blogs. I would never post over at IGN. Talk about massive troll infestation lol. Seems pretty crazy over at Giant Bomb too. I think we are in the right place.

Aaron, posting at IGN wasn't that bad. I never had any troll issues and I did make some friends over there. I just feel that it lacks the sense of community that I feel is important. And did make some cool friends there.

I must agree.

I didn't know about Nick or Michael, but that was nice, and I did read that great article by Julian.

I have an IGN account, but I just do not like their community that much. Their content? The reason they're the go-to for so many. Their comments? Garbage, mostly.

Never been to Playfire or Giant Bomb, but Pixlbit seems awesome so far, and very close to what I liked 1up for already, plus some nifty things like speed 1up didn't have :)
