Thanksgiving Miracle!

So, without getting into spoilers, Arrested Development Season 4. It really was a Thanksgiving Miracle. I'm going to say two things. The first won't be a spoiler, the second will. You've been forewarned. The first is a brief opinion on the new season of the show.

Outstanding. Maybe it's because I'm sleep deprived. Maybe it's because I'm crazy enough to marathon the whole thing. Or maybe because it's just hilarious streamivision (I just coined a new word!) I loved it. The show was great. It takes a few episodes to get used to the new style. This isn't the same Arrested Development of Season 1-3. Except it is. But it isn't, at the same time. There are more jokes. A lot more jokes. The show moves faster. It jumps around more. Episodes center on just one character, and so A plots and B plots and C plots all work differently from traditional TV shows, and the first three seasons, as well. Whatever. It's different, and it works. And Rita is only briefly referenced instead of a several-show running arc joke, so it definitely works without that lul where there's a big reveal.

Now for the spoiler paragraph. Don't expect huge spoilers here. To be brief, I think it might be fun to get into some sort of forget-me-now loop when it comes to watching the season. I loved it. Also, now that I've put some extra text up in this paragraph, it needs to be said: I can't wait for the movie. Maybe the movie will come out a week before Thanksgiving, and be in theaters while we all eat duck l'orange. Maybe. But one thing is for sure: At this point, Mitch Hurwitz, the cast, and the writers are definitely planning a movie. To sum it up, this new season isn't about the destination, it's about the journey, and it's great. But now that I've seen the journey, I still want to watch the destination and probably watch it more than once in theaters, because I felt the season was that good, you know? Anyway, here's more filler text so I'm not talking about the thing I mentioned some in this paragraph. I know some people, like my friend Chris would consider even the thing I mentioned a spoiler, even though it doesn't reveal anything about the plot, but rather the structure. But yeah, that's definitely going to happen, and I say bring it on.

Will I be hunted down if I admit I didn't get into the series after episode one? *hides*

Which episode one? I wouldn't blame you in either case, season 1 or 4. The pilot isn't great, and serves, like most TV pilots, to establish a setting more than provide an example of what the show will be. Try watching up to episode three or four of the first season before you make up your mind on the show, as those first few episodes beyond the pilot are more enjoyable.

If it was season 4's first episode, some opinions have been mixed about it. I loved the first episode and thought the second one might be the weakest of the new season, but  the fourth season's structure lends itself to more enjoyment per episode the more episodes you watch, as things kind of piece together in early season episodes as things are uncovered in later ones. Or something like that.
