It's time to come clean on Tina Sanchez Palacios, guys. No insults, no swear words, no ripping each other apart. I just want to know the reasons why many people at 1up were fans of this woman despite the fact that many others blame her for ruining the site and leading it to its death.
I am aware that it wasn't her fault for the site's death. The sale to UGO, a decision by Sam Kennedy and some unindentified woman for merging all the communities together and the degredation of the site were the real reasons. However, Tina was ill-suited to being a community manager. She has a very thin skin, didn't like it if people disagreed with her biased opinions and rubbed people the wrong way with her attitude. However, many people loved her to death and 4 years later, I want to know why the current Infinity Ward community manager was beloved by many of you.
I was reading some stuff on video game addiction and decided to re-read the story of Daniel Petric. I found out that a few weeks ago, Katie Couric discussed video gaming addiction in a negative, one-sided report that she later said was poorly resaearched and shouldn't have been aired in the first place. An interview with the 21 year old Petric in prison was shown where he discussed his heinous crime in detail.
The guy seemed like he had realised he made the dumbest mistake anyone could ever make and showed some inkling of remorse. His Dad, watching the video in the studio, was moved to tears.
The sad thing is that Mark Petric did the right thing back in 2007. He was exhibiting proper parenting. "No, you can't play this game." "You're too young." "It's not right to play a video game for 18 hours." He's the head of the household and he is going to set the rules. In other words, no Halo 3. Daniel, instead of accepting this edict and waiting until he was 18, went out and shot his parents to prove what a big man he was.
This is one reason why more and more parents have become more and more lax with their responsibilities. Nobody wants to step on their kids toes any longer. They allow their 8-15 year olds to run around the Internet unsupervised. Back in 2000, that was fine. In 2013, that's suicide. Social media, social networking; it's here to stay. It's only going to get bigger. 85% of PCs have cameras and microphones. Soon it will be 100%. They feel the status quo is better than putting their foot down. Parents need to learn about the evils of social networking.
It would help if media people stopped shoving Twitter down our throats, too. Sure, it can be a useful tool but most people only use it for the wrong reasons.
I have more respect for the parent who puts his foot down and possibly risks, minute it may be, that he gets maimed by his kid than the parent who does nothing and possibly risks, minute again, that his kid is found in their bedroom dead from hanging themself.
On a side note, I wonder what Daniel thinks of the Xbox One or if Katie Couric is a fan of J. Cynthia Brooks?
