Why The Internet Is A Horrible Place For Gamers

My heart can only take so much more disappointment.

Okay, so here's the deal. My primary web browser is Google Chrome. I've placed several topics on my Google News page, that'll pop up every time I pull up Chrome. I've got a Final Fantasy news tab, a Grand Theft Auto V news tab, a Sonic news tab (no, I don't know why), a Last of Us news tab, and many, many more. But guess which one is causing fresh bruises on my soul this time?

The Kingdom Hearts news tab.

Normally no news of relevence pops up under this header, but imagine my surprise this morning when an article pops up regarding news on Kingdom Hearts 3. I probably held my breath throughout the entire reading of the article, because frankly I'm a little out of breath. Now I stand at the intersection of Hope and Frustration, not really sure where to turn at this point.

APPARENTLY, the nice people over at STFU and Play spoke with an anonymous source (more on those later) from Sony, who stated that:

"both Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy Versus will be next generation games and Sony has secured an exclusive deal with Square-Enix to keep these titles on the Playstation 4."

Okay....so. This is good news right? We should be happy, right? Well, yes and no. Because as with almost all rumors, you should only believe about 30% (if that) of what an anonymous source tells you.

God I hate anonymous sources. We could clear up so much of a rumors credibility if we just knew who was saying what. I mean yeah, they said it was someone "close to Sony" who said it, but that could mean literally anyone. Maybe it was someone taking a tour of the facility, or a Sony exec that just got laid off and is now trying to fuck with people's emotions to rile up bad business for the company. Hell, maybe it's a bitter custodian tired of not getting his cut. Who the fuck knows?

And you know what? I can almost forgive it in the case of Versus XIII, because I'm so beyond done with anticipating that game. It's whatever at this point. But Kingdom Hearts 3? That's just something you don't tease me with, period.

Oh I'm telling ya, E3's got a lot to prove.

And since we're on the subject of Kingdom Hearts...

If you play the games and are confused by the story, or haven't played the games and wanna see what it's all about, I highly recommend GameTrailers new Timeline video for Kingdom Hearts. It's pretty long (52 minutes), but it's got a whole bunch of information and it's incredibly well edited. Helped me out a lot. There's also a Legend of Zelda one if that's more your cup of tea.

I'm going to get the Kingdom HEarts HD when it comes out.  I tried playing it before and liked it, but then I got distracted... as usual.  Smile

I actually still haven't beaten the first one....It's actually really hard. I feel pathetic admitting that, but it is.

I have been waiting so patiently for Kingdom Hearts 3.  I gave up on all of the rehashes that they keep releasing.  Frankly, I do not care about roxas or organization xiii.  I just want sora, kairi, and riku.

Initially I didn't care about Roxas or Organization XIII either, but I kind of stuck with all the games and ended up caring about them just as much as Sora, Riku, and Kairi. I think there was a lot of potential there to get more people into it, but they kind of ruined it by spreading the games across multiple platforms. In order to be totally invested, you can't miss a game (unless that game happens to be re: Coded which sucked and served no ancillary purpose to the overall storyline). Luckily, the only one I've missed is Dream Drop Distance, so I have a pretty good grip on the story and a steady relationship with all the characters.

It probably has been far too long since I have played any of the games.  I have been wanting to play them again for a couple months now.

I'm actually replaying the first right now, which is probably stupid since the HD version is coming out in September, but I'm probably not gonna get that for a while anyway.

I've been awaiting a true sequel to the console'd Kingdom Hearts games. I loved the first two, but I just couldn't get into the handheld versions. I'm really excited for E3 though, I think we'll get some great gaming news.

Speaking of E3...
Whatever happened to that Furious Four game that was teased a few years ago? I know they were having some problems with it, but it's been non-existent for the last few years in terms of news.

OHHHHH I remember that!!! I remember being super excited for this for some reason. I'd totally forgotten all about it until just now. Hopefully it'll make an appearance soon, because it looks promising.

I was actually watching that vid this morning, my exact words "Finally!" I'm not into KH but playing some of the games all i was left with was questions. And people complained about the Zelda games, hoho!Tongue Out

Hmm for some reason Kingdom Hearts has never really confused me that much. I guess that's only because I've played all except Dream Drop Distance, which was the last one released. I guess the problem comes in when you play "some" of the games. Unless the only one you missed out on was re: Coded, you're gonna have a hard time understanding stuff.

I'm gonna be annoyed when E3 rolls around, and we still get more rumors than facts.

I'm sure that's inevitably what's gonna happen, as per usual. Just waiting to see how bad it actually turns out.

You'll probably kill me, but I don't really care about the story in KH games.  I just like tromping around Disney worlds beating up bad guys.

GamerGirlBritt

Haha I won't kill you. I don't normally care if people don't have the same preferences as me. I can understand why the story doesn't interest you, but I enjoy the whole package really. I think it just made a huge impression on my young mind.

I can think of countless other ways the internet is a horrible place for gamers (and for just about anyone viewing it); I'll mention some of those ways eventually, but you're probably just as familiar with them as well!

Anonymous sources are, I suppose, one of those double-edged swords of journalism.  They're great for grabbing readers' attention and journalists themselves rarely want to turn down getting the scoop, especially if the stories of said sources hold up.  But if it's just rumor or speculation (or worse, an outright fabrication), the audience gets frustrated and at least one person may be out of a job.  It's dicey, for sure.

Thanks for the read!  Keep writing and maybe you'll have a future doing that sort of thing. :)

I would love to have a future doing this kind of thing. Dream come true actually. Like a female Annoyed Gamer. Guess we'll have to see what the future holds.

I read that SE trademarked the names Agito and Versus recently so I suppose that means those games are planning to be released? Agito had it's name change to Type-0 in Japan so it's weird that they would trademark Agito? Versus dropped the 13 part as did Lightning Returns, so maybe they will be stand alone games? The creators of Kingdom Hearts were pulled away to work on Versus and Realm Reborn, so I would imagine if a KH game is announced, it would be after the release of these games. Just speculation.

GamerGirlBritt

The trademarking of names that may or may not actually be a thing confuses the hell out me, so I won't even speculate on that, but it's been known for awhile now that KH3 wasn't even gonna be worked on until they're done with Versus, hence the real reason a lot of people want Versus to hurry the hell up

Only played the second one and I absolutely adored it. You should talk to Bilby when she makes an account, she's obsessed with those games!

Most definitely!

Well, the good news is that it appears these games are on the horizon (finally).  And they should be perfect given the amount of time they have had to work on them.  But if Sony has the same DRM always on and used game bullshit that is rumored for Xbox1, then I won't be playing either.  I hope the current generation isn't my last generation of consoles, but it may be,

GamerGirlBritt

They SHOULD be perfect, but I'm almost positive that won't be the case. Still holding out hope though.

Ah the "anonymous source." Could be the head of Sony, it could be the friend of a friend who overheard it while sitting in a cafateria from someone who thinks they have connections. I guess the only positive is that there is going to be a new game.

I do hate news like this when it teases you, or shows you little features. EA Sports is good at this with the features of NCAA Football.

I haven't played any of the KH games but I will check out the vid. Thanks for the info

I recently bought Kingdom Hearts 2 along with the collectors edition strategy guide. It's such a beautiful game,I love the art from it. So I am also hopeful that Kingdom Hearts 3 will become a reality. In this world of remakes and bland sequels we could use a game like that to invigorate the genre. Thanks for posting the video, that's a cool one.
