I'd play that game. I love that cover too.

I slept pretty restlessly last night,as we stayed up watching the tornado info on TV til almost midnight. Several tornadoes touched down all across the state. Thankfully the damage caused was not as awful as what happened in Moore last week. Although a few people did lose their lives, which is always tragic. I was really hoping we'd be lucky last night and avoid that from taking place. So I finally had to force myself to go to sleep. Woke up abruptly this morning and remembered what I had been dreaming. Very rare for me,can't even recall the last time I remembered a dream. The dream took place at sort of a gaming/anime/sci-fi convention in California, not sure which city, but I think it was San Francisco. Apparently I was there pitching an idea for a game called The Fifth Angel. Strangely enough,my brother and two friends from college were there with me. This title came from a book I read when I was a teenager,as well as the game concept.
This is the book I read. I read a lot of books of that type back then. This was about the time First Blood hit theaters. Rambo was all over the place, becoming part of our pop culture. That's why it is referenced in the header on the book. It was so long ago I read the book I can only remember the general storyline. It's a story of a highly trained soldier[a Rambo sort of character] who feels he was wronged by comrades and people in the government. Much of the action takes place in New York City. That is where he eliminates his enemies one by one. All the while being hunted relentlessly. The police know who he is and what he is capable of. I remember the climax takes place in the subways, sewers, and vast network of tunnels under the city. As a kid he had learned to navigate them very well. Knew them like the back of his hand. So he actually had the upper hand when they pursued underground.
There was another book with the same title that I did not know about. It had something to do with a serial killer who was going around killing sex offenders. Not so sure that would make a very good game. But the first book has some possibilities perhaps. Mainly because of the setting. Unlike Rambo, this guy fights in the streets. He can kill quietly with stealth,or go in guns blazing. He also liked to blow shit up,which is always a plus! The character in the book was portrayed not as a mindless killing machine, though. He was just a regular guy who had ethics, morals, and values. At the same time,he was a highly trained killer. He decides there are simply too many people who have gone unpunished for their sins. Hence the title of the book.
There was a metal band from that same era called Fifth Angel. They were from Seattle and probably would have been bigger if Queensryche had not hit at the same time. Kind of stole their thunder,so to speak. Always liked that album cover. Invokes a certain spirit of vengeance. The Fifth Angel is from the Bible,in the Book Of Revelations. Even though I'm a non-church going heathen I do know that much. I think as a game concept you could use imagery like this if you set the game in medeival times. Swords, armor, dragons, that sort of thing. I don't know. Seems like it would get lost in the crowd if it were like that. But that type of character unleashing his vengeance in the heart of NYC could be interesting, especially if they took the time to give some background story to the lead character. If I had the skills to design games I would certainly take a shot at it. Has a lot of the elements you see in modern games these days. Targets to eliminate, shootouts, blood, explosions, and vengeance. Oh well....just thought it was a very unusual dream. Mine are usually pretty strange like that. Here's a song from Fifth Angel...
