MMOnthly - Defiance

Guys, here's the deal.  Each month, I shall delve into the realms of an MMORPG, level up as high as I can, and give you my personal opinion on it.  Does that sound awesome?  By golly of course it does.

This month it's Defiance, the MMORPG that thinks it's a third-person shooter.  After days of disconnections and other server-related griefings, I was finally able to play Defiance consistently.  This was joyous news for me, and for days – nay, weeks – I was unable to quit playing this game.  Unfortunately, this wasn't because the game was good, but because the developers literally forgot to add a quit button.

After playing this game for a while, I began to think this was a deliberate part of the design.  I began to suspect they were holding me against my will, and that if I found the quit button, I'd never want to return.

Well, they may have been on to something. Read the rest here!

Great review Blake. It kinda sounds cool with the post apocalypse theme going on. But it seems like there are a lot of problems with it. I can't believe it took them so long to patch in an escape key. That's one of the most basic things in software lol.

Yeah. I dived back into the game yesterday and they'd actually really improved it, but apart from being a shooter, it just doesn't do enough to differentiate itself from other MMO's to really warrant paying full price. If it comes down to 20 bucks or something, I'd say pick it up, but not at the price it's at now.

Every single month?! You got your work cut out for you. Those MMORPG's can take some time get into. I'm seriously scared of starting one myself for fear of the whirling swirling maelstrom that'll drown all else in my life. I'll enjoy reading your responses to them though.

Yep. This is the second month and I'm already starting to regret my decision. My last one was for Tera if you haven't read it, I'll link it if you want. I'm doing Neverwinter this month btw. I was going to do Age of Wushu, but I just can't connect to that game for some reason.

I played WoW but didn't get into it as much as everyone else did. Guild Wars 2 was what really enamoured me, and I still check in every once in a while just to say hi to my guild, and play some WvW because it's awesome.

For a moment, I didn't remember this was the tie-in game for that Sci-Fi tv show, until I started reading your review.

The show isn't terrible, surprisingly. It's definitely not a Battlestar Galactica contender like they promised, but it's alright.
