Top 5 for Pixlbit Island

Hello Pixlbit! While adding my recent thrift store purchases to iTunes, something hit me. If I were to pick five songs to listen to on an island what would they be? After thinking about this and how we can make it video game worthy. So I came up with this: I’m stuck on an island for a year. During this time I can have only five of the following until I decide I need to create a raft and leave my island, or just wait for rescue.

Well I decided to set up some ground rules:

  1. No Adding extra anything. This takes the fun out of it
  2. No wishing for a satellite phone, help, ect. You’re only on the island for a little bit
  3. You can ask for a pet volleyball
  4. Food, bathrooms, electricity will be on the island so relax (it worked for Gilligan’s Island, it’ll work for you)
  5. Did I mention the pet volleyball?

So these are some rules I set up for what I like to call the Top 5 for Pixlbit Island

Top 5 Video Games on Consoles

  1. NCAA Football 2013, PS3: I spent the most time with this game because I like building up schools into powerhouse programs.
  2. NAMCO Museum Vol. 1, Playstation: Let’s be honest everyone needs at least one compilation set in their list because there are a bunch of games on them.
  3. Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt/Track & Field cart, NES: Speed runs with plumbers, laughing dog when you miss a duck, and some quick exercise (because who’s crazy enough to run on a beach)
  4. GTA San Andreas, PS2: Who doesn’t love cruising around the GTA Universe, and yelling GROVE STREET!
  5. Guitar Hero, PS2: Out of all the GH games, I enjoyed this game’s music lineup the most

Top 5 Games on Handhelds/Tablets

  1. Real Racing 3, Android: I haven’t touched this game in a while but if I was stuck on an island, I need something that takes my mind off of things and this does it
  2. Fairway Solitaire, iOS: This was my first love when it comes to tablet gaming. I’m not very good at real golf and solitaire, yet I like this game. Who knew?
  3. World Series Baseball, Sega Game Gear: I played three full seasons with three different teams (Angels, Padres, Marlins) Why do I love this game when RBI Baseball on the NES looks the same? The opponent will always swing at an inside fastball.
  4. NCAA Football 06, PSP: The NCAA games on the PSP were terrible and felt like shortcuts to the console versions, but when I spent a summer in Hawai’i I played a full decade on this version and it grew on me. Sure some of the stadiums were generic, and it was the stripped down version, but it was fun.
  5. Lumines, Vita: I could have easily said on the PSP, but I felt the need to have my Vita represented on this list. Both look about the same, but I guess what swayed me to the Vita version is the leaderboards with your friends…and earning useless trophies.

Top 5 TV Series

  1. Lost: I’ve never seen it, I might as well watch the entire series…while on an island. Oh the irony
  2. Sunny In Philadelphia: I love this show, and it’s good mindless, WTF, fun
  3. This Old House: It’s interesting to see how they build homes. I’m useless when it comes to building things out of wood, so it’s fun to watch. I also want to see the group actually complete a house
  4. Days Of Our Lives: I haven’t watched an episode since college (finish classes at noon, bring lunch back to the dorm and watch) and there is a lot of content to watch.
  5. Jeopardy!: I’m one of those people who like to yell out answers. Give me a couple of seasons, and I’ll be fine

Top 5 Movies

  1. The Godfather: C’mon now, this is an awesome movie. Everytime its on TV I watch, I’ll pop in the DVD and watch. Heck I even joke about it.
  2. GI Joe The Movie: Not the garbage that was released a couple of years ago, the cartoon with Don Johnson as Duke’s Brother, and Serpentor working with the good people from Cobra-la.
  3. Fast 5: Safe Dragging, and constant flyovers of the city and Christ The Redeemer just in case you forgot within five minutes where the film takes place
  4. Stepbrothers: This film beat out Anchorman by a little bit. I need a film that no matter how many times I’ve seen it, I will laugh, and laugh hard.
  5. Empire Strikes Back: Yes this is the movie I’m bringing from the trilogy. Why? Because it has Lando (only dude to look like he’s in the 1970s), Boba Fett, Han Solo being a bad ass, Yoda, the character I like, and the cringe moment when Leia kisses Luke. It ends on a cliffhanger, and it has Snowspeeders.

And now the question that started this all for me:

Top 5 Songs You Want For The Island Mixtape

  1. SDSU Fight Song, SDSU Marching Aztecs. I want some school pride on this island. After I’m done making the school logo out of rocks for planes to see, I’d like to sing the fight song.
  2. Bolero, Ravel: It’s a pretty bad ass piece because it continues to build and build, until you have the entire Symphony playing along…plus it’s around 18 minutes long. Not a bad way to kill some time on an island
  3. Uprising, Muse: We need some blood pumping music
  4. Call Me Maybe, Carly Rae Jepsen: There is always room for good old fashion pop
  5. I Hear Music, Beach Boys: My favorite Beach Boys song, and c’mon now I’m next to a beach, how do you not have the Beach Boys on this list?

*Now I know you’re saying to yourself, Chris you missed out on a bunch of other songs, or five songs just isn’t going to cut it for me. Take a look at the games I picked. A couple of them have awesome soundtracks that fill some of the gaps.

So there you have it, the items I want if I was stuck on an island. Have any thoughts on what you would want? Share’em.

Other Things

So I bought the Star Trek DVD for $5 because it comes with the digital version, which is $10 less than the iTunes version. I really just wanted the digital version so I can plop it on the iPad and watch it on the go.

After a couple of tries, it finally loaded up. Kind of funny that I had to redeem the code in iTunes, just so it could download from the disc.

I went back to Target before the Buy 2 Get 1 50% off sale ended, and found another Mine Playset. The box was opened, so I took it to an employee to see if they can check if all the contents were in the box. They checked for me, and I jokingly said I should get a discount, and to my surprise they said I do. After doing their magic, I got it for that price

Pretty darn cool. I needed a second set so I bought this random Jeep/ATV set just to add the ATV to my Lego Police Force

Yesterday while running errands with a friend we hit another Target after lunch. I saw that they had their 8GB Memory Sticks on sale. I was going to buy one the day before but K-Mart’s sale ended and the only one they had was one that looks like someone tried to steal it. Well I got my memory card and…

Yeah I spent way too much, but it was Buy 2 Get 1 Free on Vita games, and I’ve been watching these games for a while. The only one I’m a little disappointed with is Ridge Racer because it seems like it isn’t like the previous version where you win races, and unlock cars, and courses. Other than that I really like all three games, and I’ll probably go more in-depth later on.

I'm also pretty sure I'm done buying Vita games until after Thanksgiving when all the crazy Black Friday deals are going to take place and you know Vita is going to have a good number of games on sale.

I added some music to the library thanks to a local thrift store. Buying the Elton John saves me from ripping my Vinyl copy.

I also hit the local mom & pop to check out their $1.99 wall. I found a couple of one hit wonders, and a sealed Sophie B. Hawkins.

Cost Plus World Market is an interesting place. I go there for the random candies and sodas.

I also go there because this is the only place I know that sells bacon candy bars (they taste like a Slim Jim…OHHH YEAHHH). The bacon jerky tastes like the bacon you cooked at breakfast, left out and ate after lunch. A little chewy, little salty, but bacon.

I won my second Treasures of Montezuma Blitz!

Cool stuff. After the contest ended, I then hit my highest score

After that I haven’t cracked 4 million, but I’m still playing!

Before I call it a blog, I’ve been seeing a lot of people create their own versions of the Iron Man Hulkbuster suit using a Ninjago Mech set. I decided to try my hand at it especially since I bought two of those sets to create my own Mech.

I think I did ok with it. It’s a lot bigger than my Hulk figure, and I’d like to add to the legs so they don’t look so small. Here’s the current Tony Stark/Iron Man family pics.

Well that’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

top five games:

1. Sega Genesis Collection for PSP

2. FFVII

3. FFI9

4. KOTOR 2

5. Super Mario 64.

I love that GI JOE movie.  IT's so fucked up when Roadblock is blind and Cobra cOmmander is a snake telling him what to do.  That's grade A wackness.

Hey another GI Joe: The Movie fan. I always thought that Roadblock/Cobra Commander was an odd pairing, but felt bad for the commander at the end. That was the storyline they should have used in the "other" movie a couple of years ago.

For my five island games I'd choose Metal Gear Solid, GTA:Vice City,Red Dead Redemption,Final Fantasy VII,and Parasite Eve.  For handhelds I would pick GTA:Chinatown Wars,Dragon Quest IX,Ocarina Of Time (3DS version),Super Mario Land 3D, and Metal Gear Solid : Peace Walker.  TV series I would take are Sopranos,True Blood,Game Of Thrones,Big Bang Theory, and Sons Of Anarchy. Movies? Right there with you on The Godfather,as well as Star Wars IV,Blade Runner, Braveheart(of course),Avatar, and Resident Evil.  And songs I would take? Kids In America by Kim Wilde,Ace Of Spades by Motorhead, Tom Sawyer by Rush,Heaven And Hell by Black Sabbath, and Number One by Goldfrapp. A little of this and that!  Bacon makes everything better...how can you go wrong? Nice finds on the Vita games and Cd's. Especially that one by The Proclaimers. There were never two brothers who were more unabashedly Scottish than them! I like their style and their singing. The Boss! One of his best ones. I have that Elton John CD. So many great songs on that.

Oh GTA Chinatown Wars. I really enjoyed that version of the GTA Franchise. I played it on the PSP, and I liked how you had to rotate the nub to unscrew the plates. Good times.

Bacon is awesome, am I right?

Thanks! I'm like many never heard of the Proclaimers until Benny and Joon, but now I get to listen to their other songs...and then sing along with 500 Miles.

For the sake of time, how about the top 5 across all media:
1. Games: X-Com: Enemy Unknown [Xbox 360]. Why? I haven't played it but I know I will want to play it for a very long time while eating bacon.
2. Handheld Game: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars [3DS] Why? I'm playing it now and after only a few levels, I already want to replay them while eating bacon.
3. TV Series: The Mighty Boosh. Why? So I can meticulously recreate every set design, art object and costume and makeup decision out of sea shells, coconut husks, and bacon.
4. Movies: Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. Why? Because, like a five year old, I can have this running in the background to whatever I'm doing for literally an infinity of time as long as I also have bacon to chew on.
5. Song: Flaming Lips - Spongebob & Patrick Confront the Psychic Wall of Energy. Why? Reminds me of their captivity, similar to isolation on an island, and makes me realize there are inner worlds to conquer, giving me hope of personal growth and of getting more bacon... and there better be damned bacon on this island or all this won't matter at all!

I like your concept about the list. We shall call this the bacon fueled list!

Of course there will be bacon on Pixlbit Island. We're not monsters.

Thanks for that. Without bacon, no amount of media could keep me sane. LOL
