Well, fuck me. A few key points:
- Publishers can decide how used games will be handled, and whether or not you can even get used games at all.
- You WILL have to be connected every 24 hours, and if you're logged into a friend's console it checks every single hour.
- You'll only be able to give/sell someone a game once, and they have to be someone on your friend's list for 30 days or more.
- Loaning and renting games won't be possible at launch, but they're "exploring possibilities with their partners."
That first part worries me especially, because A) I'm sure plenty of devs will block all used games, and B) Sony has also stated they'll be leaving DRM "up to publishers", which means they may well have the same damn policy.
This next generation is looking worse all the time. What the fuck is the point of even buying a console with all these stupid restrictions? I already have to deal with them on PC, a more powerful and open platform to boot. Plus Steam is a much better, FREE service with cheaper pricing--and it's hardly the only place you can go to get PC games.
Not to mention how I've been very disappointed with the current generation, and the next generation looks to exacerbate the industry's problems. Every day, I'm seeing fewer and fewer reasons to jump in. It's like they want me to put it off for as long as possible.
*sigh*
