Microsoft....Just Stop

I need to rage for a moment about Microsoft and how they have been annoying me.

I noticed tonight that Microsoft started to explain in "better" terms some of the questions from the privacy, games, and the internet. Some of the questions were answered and cleared up but others were this is all we will disclose at this time more to come soon. If you are going to only give an answer that is half-assed I would rather wait for you to tell me something more concrete so that I am not ready to rage about how stupid you are.

One thing I find absolutely stupid now is that you have 24 hours to play a game offline but you have to connect again after that in order to play again otherwise you cannot play a game offline. You can watch TV or a movie though without having to connect to the internet whenever you want. But games...we are limited to 24 hours offline. Soooo there goes people who don't have internet. Also god forbid the 300,000 servers crash for Microsoft...there goes gaming time.
Used games now...there is no fee BUT if you loan out the disc out to someone once. Now from what I have read this once means that you cannot loan it out multiple times to the same person but you are able to loan it out to others. This is my understanding of it but again I am not even 100% accurate. Also the person has to be on your Xbox friends list for at least 30 days. Also used games are sold to select retailers by what the publisher says is okay to sell it back to. So all games may not be able to be sold/bought used anymore; it also is the publishers decision if there is fees for transfers as well. They did clear up one thing about the game system as to a game being locked to one account on a system. You can have a family on your Xbox One of up to 10 people who can access your library off any system if they are connected to the internet I suspect. However Rentals and and any other loan programs won't be available at launch.

The only good news I actually saw was about the kinect and how you set the privacy settings to how much you want it to be. So it's good to know I will not have it always on and that I can turn it off when I am not using my system. So I think this was the only item that was 100% accurate and answered in the fullest.
I am still worried about the $$$ cost of the system and the services it will provide (live, game price, etc.) That is still something left in the quiet which I am happy about because that is something I would want a definite answer of instead of more in the months to come based answer.

Hopefully Sony does not have some of these issues because I know they were just as vague. Microsoft keeps turning me off more and more to this system...even if the exclusive games could be amazing...the system just seems like a horrible design of trying to start having the console world going digital and stopping piracy. There seems to be too much that has to go on with it and monitoring of whats happening on the system.
I am actually glad Sony didn't shove so much info out on us like Microsoft did because it seems like they may be smart and be waiting till they know 100% accurate information. Well this is a hope of mine anyways....I just pray they don't start pulling a Microsoft. I am starting to get tired of Microsoft trying to justify themselves and still giving answers then saying we'll answer more on it later as well! It almost is seeming like they don't even know what is going on. Get your game together and just give me definite answers!

My rage and rant is now over. Did anyone else read the "answers" Microsoft gave? What do you think about what they have changed/said that is now new info?

I still feel that Kinect will be able to mine your data, even with the camera turned off. This whole thing has been a secretive and half arsed affair. We still don't have the answers that gamers deserve. I see no reason for anyone to trust Microsoft anymore.

Yeah, honestly I was use to always be anti Microsoft till I decided to give the 360 a try....they are just proving why I should go back to hating them.

I supported the original XBox, and then the 360 until it crapped out on me. No more money for them. The brand has become a cesspool of shallow and mainstream gaming.

They just need to stop making things worse for themselves by reminding everyone how bad these policies are. Then again, the internet is where this is being discussed, and that does not necessarily reflect the mainstream, so we'll see how much most consumers actually care. I'm still not planning on buying one though.

I disagree. Let Microsoft talk, if they're going to pull this crap, so they can keep hanging themselves. For consumers, forewarned is forearmed. :)

No, I'm glad they alerted me to what a shitbox this thing is, I'm just baffled at how dumb this all is, and why in the hell they thought public reaction would be positive.

Haha that is a good point to let them keep hanging themselves! I just would prefer more of a solid answer though and not something they answer then change again and again it's starting to get really annoying >_<

Everything new I hear only makes this "console" sound even worse. I'm so sick of it to be honest. I hope the Xbone fails miserably. Gaming is becoming more of a service than anything else, and I don't need somebody babysitting me every 24 hours. What happened to the concept of buying a game and actually being able to play it?!

Pretty much This lol. I understand they are trying to reduce piracy and all that jazz but I feel they are taking it to an extreme.

iTunes is the future of gaming. Resistance is futile! I do feel as though the game industry is wiping the table off last gen gamers in favor of a new gen of iTunes ipod kids. They are already used to this pay model so they will buy the new system without complaining.

Very true....the new gen of gamer is digitally more versed. I just wish they kept the other gamers in mind and not put forth all these annoying policies.

Well anyway you look at it its another form of sensorship and a way of Microsoft saying you may have forked over $400 bucks for the system but in reality we own it, and if you really look at it thats exactly what there doing there telling you when you can pkay god forbid your internet goes down in that hellatious hail storm that pops up cause after 24 hours they will let you watch tv or a movie golly gee how generous of them. Screw that my mother , wife ,kids boss etc dont tell me what to do what the hell makes Microsoft think they can, HA HA NOT.......... no im not going for there stupidity and hopefully Sony has more common sense then to attempt this nonsense, then Microsoft has the audacity to say who i can and cant loan my games i bought to thats udderly rediculous and there not getting one penny of my hard erned money.

Nice point. It's silly how they are keeping us locked from playing a game when we have no control over the internet situation. Honestly it's just dumb. I feel bad for gamers who love Microsoft and have no internet.

You know what's funny? In europe what MS are proposing to do with their console is technically illeagal.Wink

Why not just flat out make a gaming PC cat this rate? Because that's all the Xbone is trying to be, a PC but with less features or customisability. Waisters the lot of them, gamers need to try and get all this negative talk to say larger media because the average consumer won't know all this rubbish and they make most of the profits (well, i assume).

I actually did not know that it was illegal in Europe! Oh microsoft....appealing to only us Americans. I agree if there is someone out there who doesn't really keep up with the gaming talk and a parent thinks "oh this may make a nice gift" give it to their child and then realize later they wasted money on a box that restrickts their child from playing a game....especially if they don't have internet. I feel that when buying one a store retailer should have to say this stuff to a customer before hand so they know what they are walking into.

As of right now, I have no plans at all of buying any of the next gen systems. I will probably go the gaming PC route and collecting all the games on the previous gen systems that I've missed out on. Right now, my backlog is so huge that I could probably go years without buying another game. Oh, hey, M$, look, you've lost a loyal customer! Bet you don't even notice...

They will when the thing flops. No way people will buy into this.

Yea well they lost me to and if they loose enough of us it will matter and i hope they go broke behind this debacle lol!!

I'm with you on the back log thing between my 360, wii (also gc games) , ds (also gba games) , ps2 (also ps1 games), n64, heck I even have snes and nes games I never finished.  I'm actually thinking about picking up a PS3 finally which is like getting a new console I guess and oh so much cheaper.  I'll probably wait until PS4 comes out the 3 price drops.

People may be mocking the Wii U right now, but it doesn't restrict our gaming time through online or used policies and will have a definite stream of first party exclusives. Nintendo's got their shit together compared to MS. And that's just sad.

I havn't knocked it at all.  There are not enough games out right now for me and I've never been an early adopter (except for the n64) but I envision in a year or two I'll probably own one.

Those stipulations are nuts. If Sony follows along with this, maybe it's time for me to just stick with the PS3 and not even go next gen. What's the point? Sure you get a lot of interesting features but there are so many restrictions on the gaming side, what's the point of playing games on these consoles?

transmet2033

The scariest thing has nothing to do with the restrictions.  I think that the scariest thing is how many of these entertainment systems microsoft will actually sell.  There are plenty of people who will not see the policies as problems, and will buy the xbox one.  The fact that Microsoft will most likely make it to the generation after this one is the scariest part.

I starting to give up on MS.  I can only hope they change this direction they're going.

Dissappointing is the only word I can muster for Microsoft at the moment, you can buy games on disk..... but they have to be downloaded onto your hard drive, and you need to connect to the internet every 24 hours, so why bother buying the disk in the first place. Will the downloads be cheaper than the disc? I doubt it, so what incentive is there to buy on disk at all. Their policy for lending games is idiotic, if a game is worth it's salt mates will buy after a try, game renting will be non existant with only free trials available! this will only encourage sloppy development in my opinion as companies will force the consumer to rely on 'tailored' demos and reviews. Man I'm pissed!

I think it's safe to say they have "stopped" if only they heard the gamer's cry before the went off the cliff of failure.
