Is Star Wars 1313 Too Similar to Uncharted?

When Star Wars 1313 was first announced, I was really interested in the idea of a new big budget Star Wars game because, well, I just love that series. There have just been two things bothering me. The first is that it may be next gen as I want to wait at least a couple years before jumping into the new wave of systems. From the looks of it may not be true as I keep hearing of PS3 and 360 editions. The second though is something that I won't be able to know until I play it: This game looks like Uncharted in space. Just check out this video

Explosion, guy getting into firefight while still recovering, douchebag who sends you jumping out, and desperately climbing on the parts of an aircraft to avoid falling off. That's pretty much Uncharted and 1313 looks to be the same. But look at the more subtle details. The cover looks similar as does the way the main character shoots, but look at how he jumps out and snaps that guy's neck. It's basically a stealth takedown. The platforming? Pretty much the exact same as Uncharted's. I know it's inspired, but I don't want Uncharted in the Star Wars universe, I want Star Wars with Uncharted's sense of adventure. Hell, he even reloads! I know Battlefront did it, but blasters just feel like they shouldn't be reloaded.

There is one thing that fills me with hope that this won't be that. The little HUD symbol in between the blaster and grenades is an unknown. And honestly, I have no clue what it could be, but hope it's something that takes advantage of the universe. Maybe a rocket or a grapple like Bobba Fett had, just something to show that they get it's a Star Wars game first. The blaster sounds are undoubtedly Star Wars, but what about the rest of the game. The area looks a lot like the City of the Clouds where Luke fought Vader, but will there be more places than that? Part of the fun of the series is that it literally has any kind of area you want.

It could be that they may be using that just to show off the game to Uncharted fans and we could get more Star Wars things later on. Maybe ship flying's a core part of the gameplay. Maybe some enemies will be Jedi and they'll need different tactics. Maybe there will be all kinds of bounty hunter toys to play with. Maybe there's jetpacks. God I hope there's jetpacks.

Which do you think popped in their head when designing this guy: Nathan Solo or Han Drake?

I'm still really excited for this game and think there's potential for it to be the game I wish Uncharted 3 was. Even if it does take too much, there's always the chance this could be the jumping off point, after all, what's a game without some sequels nowadays? I just want a sign that this will bring the quality I wished Force Unleashed and to a lesser extent The Old Republic had. That this will be the current gen Star Wars on par with last gen Star Wars and most importantly feels like Star Wars.

I dunno man, I don't have high hopes for this game.  I love starwars, you know that, but certain things give me pause: that it will basically be on one planet, and Coruscant for that matter.  Then there's the whole bountyhunter angle:  this could be cool, but I think they might be trying to be too "edgy" like Force Unleashed pretended to be.

Still, I hope it's cool.  Even if it was "Uncharted In Space" I guess that wouldn't be so bad, as long as the story is interesting and the gameplay is polished.  But if it has a wise-cracking bountyhunter, his older buddy, and a sassy female character, I will be like "Whaaaat?"  :)

I wouldn't mind if it were uncharted in space as long as the shooting didn't suck as hard as uncharted 3's did, and the platforming sections weren't extremely linear and unchallenging. I mean, Uncharted style set pieces and coverbased blaster battles make sense within the star wars fiction. Star Wars is extremely cinematic, so this wouldn't be a "wrong" direction to take the franchise.

My major problem, though, is that it'll lose a lot of what makes star wars unique. It's not a standard scifi, its dungeons and dragons in space, essentially. That's pretty fucking awesome, so if they reduce it down to just boring blaster battle after boring blaster battle I will be a touch annoyed.

Jetpacks! Yeah! Maybe there are jetpacks Casey. You gotta stay positive man! I think the only game I ever played with jetpacks was Duke Nukem 3D. Oh and Dark Void Zero. Which was an awesome 8 bit remake of Dark Void.

This kind of reminds me of me and Tomb Raider lately. Though maybe Star Wars doesn't have a certain core gameplay it needs to incorporate, it has other things and going the cinematic action game route isn't necessarily the best. But I hope kind of like the hubs got me super excited, they show something that really gets you jazzed about this Star Wars game. Like that part that says, "Yeah this is what I wanted from a Star Wars game."

I think it looks awesome, but I'm an action/platformer guy, also a cinephile who loves pretty graphics.

Passive fan of Star Wars, but I agree about blasters, I've always felt laser-based weapons should recharge, if anything. And jetpacks are fine, as long as it's not Shadows of the Empire jetpacks, which were infuriating. So close every time that percent counter went down!

I'm okay with Uncharted in space, heck I'm really okay with anything that gets the Star Wars license back on track.  After the Force Unleashed series and at least for me the dismal failure of SWTOR I'm ready for someone to come in and make a good and engaging game in the Star Wars Universe.

What I really want from 1313 is solid gameplay, it doesn't have to be new or different or great even.  Just give me good solid gameplay that doesn't get in the way of experiencing a great story.  That's what I really want from 1313 is a great story that makes me feel like I'm part of the Star Wars universe.
