In an interview filmed prior to Microsoft’s E3 2013 press briefing and published on GameTrailers, Microsoft’s Don Mattrick has addressed concerns about the compulsory connectivity requirements of Xbox One.

“"Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity; it’s called Xbox 360,” said Mattrick.

“If you have zero access to the Internet, that is an offline device.”

Mattrick is aware of the kinds of gamers who’ll be missing out on Xbox One, and “absolutely” anticipated some blowback, but went on to reiterate he feels they have made the right call.

“Seriously, when I read the blogs and thought about who’s really the most impacted there was a person who said, ‘Hey I’m on a nuclear sub.’ And I don’t even know what it means to be on a nuclear sub but I’ve got to imagine it’s not easy to get an internet connection. But hey, I can empathise; if I was on a sub I’d be disappointed.

“It’s a service-based world, if you think about things and how they get better with an internet connection, that’s a design choice we’ve made. I think people will appreciate it... We did a lot of testing, a lot of consumer research and I think we made a good choice.”

Mattrick said Microsoft appreciates the passion of gamers but he believes gamers are “imagining outcomes that are worse than what we believe it’s going to be in the real world.”

I don't get it, is Microsoft trying to piss people off. Every bit of news coming from Microsoft regarding the Xbone is just baffling. I hate the fact they had Metal Gear Solid V at their conference too! I'll admit that I've always been particular to Sony, but E3 2013 just pushes my bias further. I for one hope the Xbone fails miserably so that these business decisions aren't set as precedent moving foward.

I'm actually with you.  I hope the damn thing fails.  Or at the very least, MS should stop being hard headed and change the thing.

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL.

I'll do you one better, Microsoft. I'll skip the Xbox One and the Xbox 360 and stick with the PS4, the PS3, and the Wii U.

SMH. Microsoft's Games Division needs a month in a psychiatric hospital under 24-hour observation, because they are seriously suicidal.

I don't necessarily hope it fails, cause competition is good ... oh wait, it can be between PS4 and PC. Never mind.

But microsoft, the PS4 doesn't require an online connection to work! Granted, you have to pay for PSN-plus to play "online co-op" then again,it's a cheaper service than Xbox live gold. That and I'm sure many games will still have local co-op too. You guys really need to re-think your battle plan, seriously.

Yeah, suck it poor people. You can have the 360 until we phase it out (sooner rather than later).

They'll change their minds when the money runs out. All the Xbone apologists in the world can't save this doomed ship.

So I guess if you live in some backwater third-world country you can just suck it! Microsoft is trying to push the world into their vision of the future early. A world where all games are digital downloads stored in the cloud. That way if you piss them off they can wipe out your whole game collection with just a few keystrokes. And still charge you the same price as if they made a physical copy of the game. It's a grand business model.....for them!

I saw the interview. Still showcasing their arrogance and proving that they never cared for their loyal audience that went through all the crap with the console because they loved Halo and Gears Of War.

People simply want a machine where they have a choice, Microsoft. Is that too hard for you to understand?

Even the ultimate Xbot, UNSCleric, is not happy.

Pretty sure this combined with Windows 8 will sink Microsoft. Arrogant cocks.
