I think I get it.

I think that I finally understand.

I thought that Sony was fairly clear on used games, and any sort of DRM.  They said that they are not making any big changes, except charging to play multiplayer.  They said that the third-party developers would have a final say whether or not they would like to restrict multiplayer on used copies of the games.

I was having trouble sleeping, so I went to everybody's favourite news source, Kotaku, and found this... sony-still-a-little-vague-about-third-party-used-games.  If the PS4's used game policies are exactly the same as the PS3's, how is that vague?  I think that I finally understand why people are so very fond of Kotaku.

In other news, The Order:  1886 sounds awesome.

Sony has been rather shady on the matter, but even if they utilize a policy of some sorts in regards to used games, the PS4's pro's heavily outweigh the pro's of the X1 to me.

I read that free to play & MMO games will not require PS+ for online multiplayer on PS4 and that publishers will determine whether their games require PS+ for online. I feel like this is all getting needlessly confusing

I read that too about whether or not PS+ is needed for free-to-play games.  That is just confusing.  Sony says that you need PS+ to play multiplayer games, but apparently free-to-play are not multiplayer...

My issue has to do with how useless the Kotaku article is.  Sony answered the question, and then clarified it twice, yet that is not good enough for Kotaku.  Sony are not changing the used game policy from the PS3 to the PS4.  How is that not clear?

I think Kotaku is at a point now where they feel any attention is good attention. As Halochief90 says, a lot of the time they're just desperate for a news story

Yeah, I used to use Kotaku until I found a much better gaming news site. With the updates being twice as long as the article itself, that article alone demonstrates how their articles are often just grasping for straws.

it is just habitual at this point.  I should probably phase them out of my list of places I visit.

Amazing how Kotaku has never been on my radar, with as many game news sources as I frequent daily. They do have a good rep for reporting scoops on things. I think that Sony will alter what they laid out at some point. But as long as used games will play on PS4 I'm okay with it. If a charge for muliplayer is the norm, then I may have to get used to that fact.

Well, I wasn't expecting an online service like PS+ to be free, so as long as it's the online play we're talking about, and the thing still works for everyone playing offline, I really don't care, and there's no expectation on my end that would contradict.
