They did not want to mess up the character of Samus, then why did they let Other M do it?
A zelda movie would be stupendous. I think of Van Helsing when I think of a Castlevania game.

This is the follow-up to last week's "VG Movie Week" (btw, thank you to everyone who read and commented, I really enjoyed doing them). Most VG movies are terrible. Very few are fantastic (such as the Professor Layton movie or the Phoneix Wright movie which was released only in Japan, I heard it was awesome). All of this VG movie talk got me thinking about games that have never had movie adaptions, but really should. I mean seriously, these games deserve movie adaptions! Here's three big ones:
The Legend of Zelda
Fans are clamoring for a Legend of Zelda movie, but Nintendo is extremely cautious because they remember what happened to the Mario Bros. when they allowed that wonderful franchise to be made into a movie. After the horrendous results, Nintendo probably made a vow, saying, "We will NEVER let anyone make a movie out of one our franchises again!" Except Pokemon.
This is amazing work! These people need to make a Zelda movie!
But think about it: Zelda is perfect for a movie! You have Link, the hero, full of courage; you have the princess, wise and beautfiul, who needs to be rescued; and you have Ganondorf, the evil villain, bent on taking over the world. It's perfect for a movie. A group of fans actually got together and made a fan-made movie called The Legend of Zelda: The Hero of Time. They did a pretty good job. The Zelda Project, a site of hardcore Zelda fans, are planning on making a Zelda movie in the future if Nintendo will let them (or perhaps even if they won't).
IGN proved to the world that a professional Zelda movie is very possible when they released their trailer for an April Fool's joke Zelda movie on April 1, 2009. Tons of fans were thrilled to see Link battle foes and journey into danger to rescue Princess Zelda, but very soon everyone realized that it was just a joke. WHYYYYYYY? If nothing else, IGN proved that a Zelda movie can become a reality if only Nintendo would let someone do it. Should it be done, or would it be doomed to be terrible?
Check out IGN's trailer for their fake Zelda movie and be amazed!
Metroid
Nintendo's beloved sci-fi series would also be a perfect fit for a movie. In 2004, Director John Woo (Mission Impossible II, Paycheck) took a great interest in making a Metroid movie, and for awhile, Nintendo was onboard too. But Nintendo eventually pulled the plug because Woo and his team would have to delve deep into Samus' personal struggles and fears, and Nintendo did not want them messing with their character. What if the movie had not been cancelled and we had it today? Would it have been any good?
Perhaps a Metroid movie would be something like this.
A Metroid movie has the potential of being amazing. Samus Aran is such an intersting character, from her humble beginnings to her strange upbringing by the Chozo to her awesome power suit and its strength. In the movie, Samus would be tasked with wiping out all the metroids, and in the process, would have to face Ridly and eventually Mother Brain. Just imagine how awesome these foes would look in CGI? Nintendo almost let this happen. I hope they'll give someone another chance soon.
Castlevania
The action-horror series of Castlevania would also make for a great movie. The series is rich in characters, monsters, and story. The movie could follow Simon Belmont as he takes up the Vampire Hunter whip and seeks to destroy the evil Dracula. Simple, I know, but it has the makings of a great movie.
Some hardcore fans banded together and actually made a short movie entitled Castlevania: Hymn of Blood. It was impressive for being fan-made, having a coupld famous actors in it and some very good CGI; the acting was pretty good too. This once again proves that a Castlevania movie is more than just a possibility. It is a good idea. Granted, the right director needs to be behind it (not Michael Bay, thank you), but the potential is there.
First part of Hymn of Blood; check out YouTube for all the parts.
So what do you think? Should thse games be made into movies? Please let us know what you think. And check back tomorrow for Part 2 as we look at three more games that should have movie adaptions.
There's a lot of potential with all of these... but honestly I wouldn't want to see any of them made. I'd be scared they would screw it up somehow. It would be hilarious seeing Simon Belmont whipping candles in Castlevania lol. I think animated movies would be great though.
Given the amount of lore at their disposal, a sprawling, epic Castlevania series akin to Game of Thrones could be pretty awesome.
I was blown away by that Zelda Project, it looks beautiful! It strikes me as the kind of story that, visually, might not have been possible to adapt until now. Thank you for sharing!
My pleasure. Your idea for a Castlevania series similar to Game of Thrones is fantastic. I think that would work (once again, if the right team does it).
Zelda Project IS awesome and beautiful. I hope they make a Zelda movie some day; I know they will pour themselves into it.
