Farcry: Three Games that have nothing to do with one Another

So i started playing Farcry 3 yesterday and started thinking about the series and how all three games have the name Farcry but wondered why is it named this, for the simple reason it has absolutely nothing to do with the game. And then being the curious guy i am tryed to tie the three games together and there is no ties, there three games with nothing to do with one another, part 3 well scratch that there in the vicinity of the Malay Archipeligo between the Indian and Pacific oceans and has to do with a group of college kids on vacation, to this tropical island when things go awry and you ( Jason Brody ) with no ties to Farcry one or two, has to rescue his freinds who were kidnapped by pirates and escape the island.

And then theres Farcry 2 and was marketed as the true sequel to Farcry Instincts however "and i  quote"sequel has very few similarities to the original game, it features completely different characters and takes place in modern day Central African nation in a state of anarchy and civil war,and you take control of a mercenary on a lengthy journey to locate and assassinate the Jackal a notorious gun runner, and again has absolutely nothing to do with Farcry Instincts nor does Farcry 3 tie in to this game in any way.

So then we go to Farcry: Instincts a less open ended game and more linear then Farcry 2 & 3 and this game follows the story of Jack Carver ( again unrelated to 2 or 3 ) is a former service member if the United States Navy who was dishonorably discharged following a number of illegal actions. In short a price was placed on his head by the Mafia, and he was forced to leave Manhatten and settle in Micronesia. So as you can see after my research on all three games although similar in gameplay but thats it, story wise nothing ties together so in short the only thing that these games share is the title Farcry which ironically has no meaning in any of the three games.

Interesting. Didn't realize the series was that disparate between titles.

I wouldnt say desperate since 2 & 3 sold very well.

Lol, I hate to be that guy, but he said disparate and he meant disparate; not desperate.

Disparate definition: adj, Essentially different in kind; not allowing comparison

Far Cry Instincts is a remake of the original for consoles, and was more linear to cope with the consoles technology. The three games are all about open world gameplay where there are multiple approaches to each scenario. That's what they all carry over, except for instincts, which isn't really part of the main series.

Extra bit of trivia: The original FarCry was made by Crytek, who then left the series to work on Crysis, which gives you the same open-ended approach to its gameplay (the first Crysis at least). It's kind of like FarCry: Sci-Fi Edition.

Well that would explain why i love Farcry 2 & 3 and couldnt get into instincts it looked good and all but was to linear and predictable.

Yea i found it very interesting that besides the name they share nothing in common except the open world and similar gameplay but what daftman said explains why i didnt like instincts.

Interesting.

I always wondered if they were somehow tied together, and now I realize they aren't!

It's kinda beneficial they do it this way when you think about it. Aka,every story is self contained so you don't need every game in the series to know what the frak is going on. (Unlike say FF 13 where you'll need all 3 games under that label to know exactly what is happening. lol. It's the same with Mass Effect too I suppose. So far Bioware still seems to have better writers than S/E though, heh!)

Yea, I know what you mean. I played the first one and liked it but never finished it. The second one I played the demo for and didn't care for it's hardcore weapons rusting and stuff. And so far what I've heard about 3 is that it's right up my alley. What they did with Blood Dragon knocked me out. I can't wait to play it.
