Introduction: I've Been Lurking...

Hey all!

I was an avid, er, "lurker" over at 1UP, and I've decided to finally throw down and get vocal! My gloves are off! (I'm not particularly fond of gloves anyway.)

When it comes to games I have a pretty simple motto: I love 'em. I don't much care about the system (though mobile and tablet gaming do have a lot to prove before they get my endorsements), and I'm not by any means afraid of constantly tinkering on my PC rig to keep it up to snuff. I love the consoles, I love the handhelds, and I love my time spent upon Mt. Olympus amongst the Master Race Foot in Mouth

I've actually done a small amount of game journalism in the past as an intern, and I've simply been away from writing for too long! I'm starting to get the itch again. I do hope a few of you out there will take the take to read my thoughts from time to time; I welcome you, and I thank you for welcoming me!

Nothing wrong with lurking. I like to sit back and let people fight it out most of the time. But thanks for deciding to let your voice be heard here at PixlBit!

mobile and tablet gaming aren't so bad.  they're just different.  and they're kind of in an adolescent phase.

welcome!

They are definitely different, and I'm trying my best to withold a final judgment until I have played a nice, broad selection of mobile/tablet games.

Welcome!

I agree with the skepticism of mobile and tablet gaming. Mostly fueled by my own bad decision making. I bought Chrono Trigger on iOS and it was completely broken. I managed to get my money back, but others were not so lucky, and took to writing scathing reviews of it. I also recently bought Theatrhythm Final Fantasy for iOS and while it was satisfactory, it didn't have all of the features of the 3DS port which was a bit of a letdown. And when I see games on iOS getting terrible reviews, or being cited as money guzzling ripoffs (FF : All The Bravest), that doesn't really entice me to go try out more of the same. So I'm still undecided in that area.

Most reviews for most mobile/tablet games have been scathing, and it doesn't help much that these platforms tend to host the most pay-to-play games (though an argument could be made for PC, as well). Though pay-to-play isn't entirely evil by nature, a lot of "good" games are really dragged down by ham-fisted attempts at money gouging (Real Racing 3 pops to mind) and draconic gating of content, making the "free-to-play" moniker many games use a huge misnomer. Most should really have subtext akin to: "Free to play... unless you want to experience more than one character and/or level." Something about the "ghost" controls don't appeal to me much, either. I know tablets can emulate thumbsticks, and I've played games that do fairly well, but for me nothing beats the precision having actual, tangible sticks to control.
