Getting my retro gaming on today.

i finally broke down and bought one of these consoles. The Retron 3,which plays NES,SNES,and Genesis games. From what I understand it will play Famicom games as well. I had my doubts about this thing, but was pleasantly surprised by it. It works great and looks good even on a big HD display. I plan on getting a smaller old school tube TV for using it with. Maybe one of those old Sony or RCA flat screen types that I used to play PS1 games on. Retro games look awesome on those. It comes with 2 wireless controllers that work really well. Has two ports for your retro controllers on the front and sides. Connections for S-Video and regular A/V input with the White\Red\Yellow plugs. It's super lightweight and compact so I should be able to integrate it into my gaming rig easily.  Now for the fun part.....retro game shopping!

I only bought one game because I wanted to make sure that it worked okay first. I picked up Desert Strike[Genesis version] for 3 bucks. And that is in the original case in good condition. Has the manual too, which is a plus in my book. Now I'll be looking for retro games at thrift stores, flea markets, and garage sales. Sooner or later I will hit the jackpot,I'm sure.

This is one I picked because it was so familiar to me. I have both Soviet Strike and Nuclear Strike on PS1 and have played the hell out of both over the years. You basically just fly around and blow stuff up. All the while completing missions and picking up friendlies to take back to base. You have to manage your resources closely, like fuel, weapons, and armor. Otherwise enemy fire will take you down rather quickly. I forgot how hard these retro Strike games could be if you just go flying in and shoot everything that moves.

This is a screen I saw frequently because I did not do that at first. Takes some getting used to. I'm already starting to remember strategies I used on different missions. I think tonight I will connect it with the S-Video cable to see if it makes a difference in image quality. Not a bad deal overall. I got 3 systems in one for only 70 bucks. And it should last me a while if I keep dust off of it. I would highly recommend it if you had any desire to play some retro games.

What I'm listening to today..............

I found a NES game today at lunch. Found Skate Or Die for 3 bucks. I always liked that one too. I'm going to be very picky about what I buy. That way I won't take up shelf space with crappy games I don't play.

Love the Strike games! My copy of Desert Strike is on my list of missing games :(

Now I just need to find Jungle Strike and Urban Strike. Saw them both at a store last week in original cases. Hope they still have them.

I was debating getting one of those.  I have 3 dozen or so random genesis games lying around.  While I do have a genesis, I do not have an NES or SNES for my handful of those games.

My favourite eagles song, ever.  I found it interesting that Jackson Browne had a hand in writing that song.

I've had no luck with original systems. They never seem to work very well. So this was the perfect solution for me. I watched many reviews of it beforehand, and they were all pretty good. Eagles have been on my mind today because I watched that new documentary"The History Of The Eagles" last night. They talk with Jackson Browne in it,as well as Linda Ronstadt,Kenny Rogers, and all sorts of folks who helped them out. I had forgotten just how good they are at harmonizing and writing great songs.

Cool! Glad it works well. I'm always suspicious of unlicensed third party consoles.

I remember that game! I played that and Jungle Strike quite a bit on my Genesis back in the day!

Congrats on your Retron 3! I have a FC Twin that plays both NES and SNES games in addition to the original consoles. Don't forget about amazon and ebay! You can find some great deals on there.

I thought about getting one of these things.  There are several brands around and the reviews on each vary.  Let me know how it goes after some regular use.  My SNES and nes take a lot of work to get a game going.

That would be pretty sweet to have! We don't have an HDTV, so I'd be fine with it. lol

Love The Eagles, and that song you posted is one I'd play on my shifts often.

I saw that system at my local retro shop. I'm glad it's working well. I'd like to get one myself.

Thought about getting one of those. But I keep hearing it can't play certain games like Castlevania III. Still get your retro anyway you can!
