i finally broke down and bought one of these consoles. The Retron 3,which plays NES,SNES,and Genesis games. From what I understand it will play Famicom games as well. I had my doubts about this thing, but was pleasantly surprised by it. It works great and looks good even on a big HD display. I plan on getting a smaller old school tube TV for using it with. Maybe one of those old Sony or RCA flat screen types that I used to play PS1 games on. Retro games look awesome on those. It comes with 2 wireless controllers that work really well. Has two ports for your retro controllers on the front and sides. Connections for S-Video and regular A/V input with the White\Red\Yellow plugs. It's super lightweight and compact so I should be able to integrate it into my gaming rig easily. Now for the fun part.....retro game shopping!
I only bought one game because I wanted to make sure that it worked okay first. I picked up Desert Strike[Genesis version] for 3 bucks. And that is in the original case in good condition. Has the manual too, which is a plus in my book. Now I'll be looking for retro games at thrift stores, flea markets, and garage sales. Sooner or later I will hit the jackpot,I'm sure.
This is one I picked because it was so familiar to me. I have both Soviet Strike and Nuclear Strike on PS1 and have played the hell out of both over the years. You basically just fly around and blow stuff up. All the while completing missions and picking up friendlies to take back to base. You have to manage your resources closely, like fuel, weapons, and armor. Otherwise enemy fire will take you down rather quickly. I forgot how hard these retro Strike games could be if you just go flying in and shoot everything that moves.
This is a screen I saw frequently because I did not do that at first. Takes some getting used to. I'm already starting to remember strategies I used on different missions. I think tonight I will connect it with the S-Video cable to see if it makes a difference in image quality. Not a bad deal overall. I got 3 systems in one for only 70 bucks. And it should last me a while if I keep dust off of it. I would highly recommend it if you had any desire to play some retro games.
What I'm listening to today..............
