Stuff I Do

There were a lot of paragraphs where this line of text was, but you can get the gist of those in the first few comments. I've since deleted that part of this blog. Was just a thought about forums I had I've decided wasn't necessary. Oh well. I've decided to take advantage of my insomnia by getting some Mickey D's breakfast. Mmmm, sausage and egg biscuit.

Stuff

I haven't done a My Gaming Timeline or music blog in quite some time. Might have to remedy that soon.

For those of you that don't know, My Gaming Timeline is a series I started on 1up where I talk about my past experiences with video games, and try and go in order by system and handheld, and talk about what my life was like around the times in which I played these games.

I had done a blog on NES and Game Boy, and was doing blogs of different series on SNES (I'd have one blog to talk about the SNES Mega Man games I played, another about the games we owned, and that way split up the massive amount of games I played on the system, but still keep each blog within a certain theme), but stopped a while ago. I think I might do one or two on PC and Arcade next, cause those were both popular with me around the same time the SNES was.

Or maybe I could do one on previous console wars and where I stood in them. That's also been done, but I do have my own little personal twists.

Anyway, other than that, I've been focused on trying to make sure I can find an apartment and go back to school for a Master's degree, and in the meantime exercising and watching all the usual blip and Youtube suspects to maintain my sanity.

I've been re-watching Avatar: The Last Airbender while the Nostalgia Critic does his opinion vlogs on the series, but he's stopped recently to upload other things, mostly regarding his displeasure towards Man of Steel. I haven't seen it yet, and I think I'll like it, especially with my expectations lowered, but we'll see. The fact it apparently does that stupid Hunger Games shaky cam thing has me worried. I love shaky cam in things like Bourne Ultimatum, but directors have started doing that shit when people are talking. Enough!

Speaking of Hunger Games, I may try to combat insomnia by reading more of Mockingjay tonight. I don't know why I have such a hard time just focusing on a book lately, but I'm determined to finish the series.

Here's some music.

Yup, still way into Macklemore. This is his first release as far as I know. It has its ups and downs like any album, but it sounds a lot more "underground" than The Heist does, and I like that sound a lot, even if I think Heist is more consistent in quality. The Youtube video's description has the song times listed if you understandably don't have time to scrub through it all. Plan on picking this and The VS EP up soon as I can.

A couple good low key songs I've been playing on guitar lately; perfect for cloudy/rainy weather.

Well, back to Mockingjay.

I used to think Pixlbit really needed a forum, but now I don't. I can go to any number of sites with forums, in fact I already do, but there aren't very many sites that support blogs or if they do, have very active bloggers. This is the only site where I mainly read othe people's long blogs and that's what I enjoy about it. Not many people have time to write long blogs or comments on boards, so having a seperate forum here would just divide the bloggers, and people would stop writing long interesting posts. Just my opinioon.

I don't know if I see that happening, but I do like reading and writing blogs, so I guess I could see the forums just not being used. Oh well, it was just a thought, and I'll still stick to just commenting myself for stuff like Xbox One policy changes that's reported very similarly by a lot of people.

well as far as the news goes, this kind of thing doesn't happen every day that we're all talking about the same thing, I think it does for like E3 or some bombshell drops, but generally the blogs here jump around a lot in subject matter.  Today was just a big day as far as the Xbox news went.

And I wouldn't worry whether or not you're contributing to the conversation. I think every voice needs to be heard, and everybody has something to say, and I don't think we judge each other on who is the most clever or whatnot.  1up, and now Pixlbit, are more about friendships and talking to people you get along with.

and like as asrealasitgets says, the blogs are what makes this community special.  It would be nice to have forums though I guess, and 1up had forums.  I guess it all depends.

so u decided to go back to school?  yeah, maybe that's the best idea.  it's rough out there.

Yeah, I've found I can get a lot of work, but I'd like to up the ante of what I can get.

And the more I think about it, you're both right about the forum thing. I'll just delete that part of this blog I think.

The idea of forums has come up quite a bit as we expand our community features here at PixlBit.  I'm not sure that we'll do pure forums, but there will likely be something comperable to expand community discussions beyond the simple blogosphere.

And if you guys have any ideas regarding community based features that you'd like to see, feel free to message me directly.  Nick, other members of the staff, and myself are taking note of what you guys want so we can provide the community tools that just don't exist anywhere else.  We don't want to be just another video game blog or news site.  We want to be a place people come to discuss one of their favorite hobbies, and other related topics.

That sounds like a cool feature. As has been a theme of the comments though, I wonder how much it would get used, and I don't want Nick or someone to slave away on coding if it won't be. If it's not that big a hassle, though, hey it's worth a shot.

I'll be sure to message either of you in the future if I have any more ideas; in this case, I posed it as more a community question of "do you want this? I think I do, but not sure."

Thanks for commenting!

I need to watch Avatar again.  I know there are some episodes I missed.

Yeah, if you missed some of them, they're online. I'll get the DVDs at some point, though.

I'm tired of the shaky cam in movies too. I didn't really take too much notice of it in Man of Steel. Although that easily could have been since I had the worst seat in the house lol. That movie was packed! I thought it was good and I'm not big on Superman. I sure do love Amy Adams though. Laughing

Yeah, I'm not really huge on Supes, but damn do those trailers look good. Might see it today.

Amy Adams is a great actress, and damn sexy.

That's one of my favorite songs by RHCP. It was the highlight of the show when they came here last year. And the Macklemore song was great, too. Forums might be okay on this site. In other places they tend to flare up into flame wars a lot. No respect for the opinion of others at all. Just a bunch of snot-nosed punks flaming each other daily. I'd like to read your gaming timelines. Console launch time is always memorable for me. I remember every one like it was yesterday. Now if I could just remember where I put my keys....damn!  I agree about Amy Adams. Ever see her in that movie The Fighter, with Mark Wahlberg? She was incredible and super hot, too.

Yeah, I saw The Fighter when it came out in theaters. I was honestly mostly focused on Christian Bale, though. He's damn good at playing basket cases.

I need to see RHCP before they die or stop touring or I die. Definitely on my need to see list.

And don't worry, the Kinect will find your keys. It is always looking .. out for you.

Wouldn't mind to see another gaming or music timeline. I always liked those blogs when you used to do them.

I was also thinking in the forums idea, but looking at our site right now, we don't need a forum yet, as the blogsphere here is very strong and supportive.

Love Avatar and I was re-watching the show last year, until I stopped. Since Doug is already getting near the end of the first season, I need to beat him up, as i'm almost halfway in the second season.

I haven't seen Man of Steel, but it's curious that you mention the shaky camera as a negative factor, as many of the criticism I encountered regarding MoS has been because of the script, characters and I think ideas. Then again, I need to see the movie so I can make my criteria. Also, speaking of Doug and TGWTG, it seems that except Angry Joe, almost everyone in the site didn't like Man of Steel.

Good ol' RHCP. Californication is easily one of my favorites from them and I would kill for a RHCP videogame.

Thanks, I hope to do one again soon.

I agree about the forum. It would be a cool option, but not really necessary right this minute.

I've been re-watching as Doug goes along.Been missing those vlogs recently. I think he should have one up tonight (yup, he does). I'm dying waiting for these things. lol

I've heard the same criticisms you have, Doug & Rob were the only ones that mentioned shaky cam. I just kinda brushed off the other complaints as people who don't think this movie lives up to Superman's legacy, but I just want a summer popcorn movie, and it sounds like I'll get that. The shaky cam I'm not too thrilled to hear about, though.

It looked like that RHCP video game was Crazy Taxi, plus extreme sports and the ability to grind the Golden Gate Bridge. I wouldn't mind if that's what an RHCP game was like. lol

Man of Steel, I liked it. It definitely portrays Superman in a world where there is no easy choice. However I did have a little problem with the middle portion of the film, it kind of drags on for a bit and it takes a while for the action to start.

Yeah, movies need to stop all being three hours long. But as long as it's good, I'm good too, I guess.

I'm just amazed you could remember anything from your gaming timeline. I can't even get my facts/times/games/systems/locations right when it comes to playing certain games and certain times in certain areas on certain systems.

Good luck to you on that if you decide to sally forth!

I didn't say that I always do either. I am having a hell of a time remembering the name of certain PC games I played in the 90s.

Opps. Sorry, I must've missed that when I read your blog. Perhaps I need to refrain from reading/responding to blogs while watching MST3K at the same time...

Super Step Contributing Writer

No, I meant to put "lol" after that first sentence, I didn't reference this in my blog, I was just alluding to the fact I use Wikipedia when I do them, cause my memory is crap as well, and if not for the internet and Google, everything in that timeline would be way off, especially since I don't always get around to playing things at the same time as when they were released/popular etc.

You're good.
