So i get home from work and my wife is all panicking about her laptop so i check it out and theres a new virus going around that locks you pc down with the screen saying FBI lockef your pc due to illegal activity and want $300 as a pac payment to remove but if you get this dont be an idiot and pay it cause its a scam but the most disturbbing thing about this is it took a picture of the inside of my house from the laptop so im dealing with this which essentially you have to go to your internet provider and fix it, wich will run a$140 to solve so word of caution make sure your pc is very secure my wife has learned this the hardway and the sad part is i told her so.

I heard you can get that virus from going to questionable sites.  Is your wife checking out porn? Wink

I know more than a few people that got that virus.  It was easy to get rid of.

I didn't realize there were multiple versions of the virsus and that it's upgrading to fix it's weaknesses.  That freaking sucks.  I think I'll stop going to my questionable sites too. Laughing

i had a dream once that someone had taken over my computer and was talking to me through it and recording me on the camera.  Shit is wack.  I hope you can get it fixed.  And make sure you install virus software.  It's costly, but worth it.

I've never heard of this. Sounds scary. Did your antivirus stop working? Crazy!

Unfortunately these attacks are not seen as viruses. They are viewed as software that you willingly downloaded even though you didn't think you were doing so. The crooks are getting smarter and smarter all the time.

It got by the anti virus protection probably like mothman said it was invited in.

Just be careful where you roam on the internet.

The sad part is that it was invited into your wife's laptop due to something seemingly harmless that she clicked on. These things are getting worse and worse all the time. It has gotten to the point that you really have to think twice about going anywhere on the internet other than sites you already trust.

Like vampires they can't get in unless you invite them, and you don't know they are vampires until they get in. Trust no one.

Pfft, robbers these days have no style. If you're gonna steal money, go do it the old fashioned way and rob a bank! Tongue Out

In all seriousness, its such a shame that people could be misleaded so easily nowadays. It really is a shame that you can only trust so few sites.

The most bothersome part about this was they took a picture with the pc camera most rediculous but disturbing to say the least.

Same thing happened to my friend. Luckily he recognized it as a scam and found a way to remove it. It was a long and grueling process and I think he had to reformat his hard-drive.

Sometimes it's not just porn sites that carry this stuff. Some of the more obscure music sites and celebrity sites can infect you too. Thanks for the warning on this one. That picture taking part is kinda scary. It took complete control over the computer.

My dad had to contact the FBI a while ago to get our computer fixed, for a virus. I don't think this was it, becuase I don't remember "illegal activity" being mentioned, but that picture bullshit is why I'm glad none of the stuff I'm on has a webcam. Unless I'm using mom's work laptop, but I've only ever used that for Skype for an interview, and the background gave nothing away, I was fully clothed, and it didn't matter because the guy couldn't see me and the feed kept being lost, anyway. lol

You can cover the camera up with electrical tape or something right.

I had to deal with this with my girlfriend a while back. I finally broke down and paid for anti-virus software instead of using the free one I was using for both of our computers.. Sometimes it's too aggressive and locks me out of the internet. I made it behave though. But the good thing is that I haven't had an attack since. That I know of...
