Man of Steel, Gaming, less allergies, too much work

Hello, everyone. I hope everyone has had a good summer so far. Or at least a productive one.

I don't talk about movies that much here. Either I save that discussion for other websites or I feel I should just stick to certain topics here. I finally saw Man of Steel Tuesday afternoon and as a childhood Superman fanboy, it felt like the movie I always wanted. Much respect to Richard Donner and his take on the first 2 (well, part of that goes to Richard Lester as well) but they're dated in certain respects (never liked Ned Beatty as Otis; never felt Gene Hackman's Lex was a real threat; never liked how Superman fucks Lois Lane and then makes her forget about it). While Man of Steel is more earnest in tone, it's more focused and tackles an origin story with care and plenty of emotional heft. The ensemble cast was great and the action sequences were awesome, beautifully wrought and harrowing. I might see it again this weekend.

Still plowing through Ni No Kuni although plowing may not be the best word because I like taking my time in that world. It's still so much fun. I bought Bioshock Infinite and Soul Sacrifice this week; both are titles I've wanted to play and finally had the disposable cash to get them. Since no stores in the area have any copies of Last of Us, I'll wait for them to restock. I still jump in Halo 4 and Uncharted 3 MP. Anyone here play Soul Sacrifice?

It's a good thing that stripping wax off of floors don't lead to allergies because that's what I've been doing at work for the most part. I've stayed out of that nasty 8th grade building (where the source of my problems were in the past). Roughly 4 weeks into the school year and my team has wasted no time in the summer work.

Anyway, my copy of Soul Sacrifice just downloaded so I'm going to jump into that. Till next time!

Ah, don't sweat it, people talk about things outside of gaming (I'm a bad offender) here all the time.

And it seems like just with Snyder's 300, critics are so-so on Man of Steel, audiences love it. I want to see it. Hopefully, I can get it in some time this weekend, that or This is the End.

I really want to see This Is The End as well. I forgot about that one.

As a childhood superman fanboy, I hated the movie and thought it was stupid. Why does everything have to be so dark? Does every summer movie need a genocide at the end so the audience can walk away feeling satisfied? I doubt anyone will ever agree with me, but no I didn't like the movie and I especially hated the ending in particular. I'm glad you enjoyed it though. Laughing I suppose as an alien invasion film like Independence Day I could see myself enjoying it.

There's just no way to be neutral with this movie; you either love it or hate it. The attempted genocide was horrifying as it should have been and the choice Superman makes at the end really shattered him. Both of these events will haunt this character in future films but I think they will be things he'll learn from. In this movie, he's just starting out and everything is a trial-by-fire. I like the different direction. I think there were plenty of humorous moments and lots of heart. Oh, well.

"Both of these events will haunt this character in future films"

He didn't seem to be haunted when he put on the glasses. There's no point in arguing about the movie. I can see as an action movie, a lot of stuff got blowed up, but as a character he seemed to be too cold and creepy. I was left wondering if Earth was left better off if he hadn't been sent here to begin with, and that's not good. I just don't think that this character can be brought into the real world. Look at all the damage and death that was caused. It was a bit ridiculous. I think Superman Returns had it right, even though it was kind of wrong at the same time.

We're not arguing. We're just having a discussion. I don't want to be a shmuck and simply declare "OMFG, YOU'RE WRONG!!!" with someone that disagrees with me. That's not why I blogged about it. I do think the different interpretations are fascinating, though. On that note...

Supes was clearly shaken up when he embraces Lois after his fight with Zod. At the end, clearly some time had passed and he's been able to move on but I do think the events here will come back to haunt him just like they did for Batman with The Dark Knight Trilogy. The poor guy had never used his powers in a fight and when he has too, he's got multiple opponents as strong as he is and he's not in complete control as he will be later on. I'm not denying the amount of damage and the implied/unconfirmed loss of life; it happened and that was the logical result of a conflict that extreme between superpowered beings, only one of which wanted to protect and live among humans. You can argue that Snyder piled on the carnage way too thick but if you're fighting in populated areas, collateral damage is going to happen. I've read some reactions that accused this film and Snyder of being morally irresponsible in that regard. Nope. Bad Boys II is morally irresponsible. Entertaining movie but just disgusting all the same.

yeah I talk about all sorts of stupid stuff here, we've all got different interests and most of us are geeks.  Man of Steel was good, but I had too high expectations.  I did really like it though, I just was hoping for more, which is kind of unfair to the movie.

I got to get back to Ni No Kuni but I just haven't been in the mood for console gaming.

Until Kevin Smith makes a Superman movie I will never watch the new ones.

You mean the one Superman doesn't wear the suit, doesn't fly and fights with a giant spider? Yeah, good luck with that. Wink

Yes. That is why he did not make the first one because they wanted the Big Mechanical Spider. He said WTF, No way, then Wild Wild West came out with Will Smith and the final battle.

I have always like superman, but became a big fan around the time that Superman Returns came out.  I also started reading more comics and stumbled upon Superman for all seasons, and All-star Superman and completely fell in love.   That being said, I really liked the movie, and cannot wait for lex luthor.

And hopefully Luthor's plan doesn't involve real estate.

My biggest hope is that they would use the second film to introduce the character of lex luthor.  Luthor is such a massive character that I think that he deserves a proper introduction.  Hvaing somebody like Brainiac as the villain of the second film, but still have lex in there, just not as the villain.
