I'm by no means that well versed in the specifications but people are telling me that the PS4 is a technological beast and will stand up with most high end PC's for atleast a year. I'm not sure whether that's impressive or not but like you said it all comes down to the games catalogue. Atleast the console will be easy to develop for this time around!
The PS4: Did Sony sell out?

There is another website I visit and a couple of the notable people there (the administrator and the tech guy) are very disappointed that Sony will not be bringing in new technology for the PS4. It will be made of PC parts and will have little proprietary material inside it.
I can understand their disappointment. Sony has always been about pioneering technology. The problem is that Sony has been in dire financial straits for a number of years and can't afford the PS4 to have a slow start like the PS3. They simply had no choice but to make the PS4 accessible to everybody. Ergo, that's why the console is a social media monster that combines the best of all worlds.
Bottom line for me is that if I can play the PS4 like I do my PS3, then I'm happy. I'm not a big Social Media guy but if this excites the Facebook/Twitter/YouTube crowd and gets them to buy the console, great.
I expect the Xbox Infinity to have the same innards and the same philosophy so it will come down to the games and reputation of the two companies and Sony still has the better exclusives and while they may have alienated a number of people the last 7 years, Microsoft has damaged their reputation significantly among their most important market, the 08-25 year old male. Also, MS will probably not waver from their obsession with Kinect 2.0 and forcing owners to be online at all times.
If the product is as good as advertised then the PS4 will bring Sony out of its doldrums. I know they didn't like having to do this but they simply don't have a choice any longer. They need to get some headway in the U.S. and U.K. markets and early on, it looks like they have made everybody happy so far.
I, for one, am excited and have already earmarked some money for a pre-order. I can't wait to try the finished product and hopefully at E3, we'll see the finished product at the Sony press conference.
